Consider this an official request for some premade living Greyhawk characters.

With the campaign rapidly approaching the end, it would be REALLY nice to have a few options so some of us new players could use. That way we could enjoy some higher level adventures we might normally miss.

Thoughts?

Are you suggesting that people be allowed to play pre-made characters that are higher than level 1?

If so then you should resign yourself to the fact hat it's not going to happen.

I would suggest just playing those modules as non-LG games but they're only licensed for LG so you're out of luck there too.

On the other hand a new player could very easily get a (new) LG character to retirement on the modules currently available.

For fear of opening a big ugly can of worms (of legend), you might be interested in looking at the D&D Campaigns (if you haven't already). The current campaign is Xen'drik Expeditions, and right now the adventures are for level 10 and higher. And there are fastplays available.

Even suggesting that it might be somewhat good to allow people to play characters higher than first level in an RPGA campaign is asking for many an expletive-filled tirade from a few more vehement board members. I have to run away now before people catch me here.

so basically fast play characters like this http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebxe/20080218a
are out of the question?...what a shame.
I'd sure love to play with my higher level friends before the end of the year...

Those fastplays are for the Xen'drik Expeditions D&D Campaign, as I mentioned above. One of the features of that campaign is a level bump, and your situation is one of the main reasons that feature was implemented: people who come in late can play with friends who have higher level characters, people who die can legally still play with their higher-level friends, etc. This is not available in Living Greyhawk.

Living Campaigns are fundamentally different from the D&D Campaigns designed like XE. All players, always, start with a level 1 character and the same (relatively wide, but still limited) options available to them. There are no unearned level kicks. The only avenue for advancing a character is by playing the character.

This has several results, one of which is that you need to have a level of social adeptness to get by without the ability to effectively plan and play a character. Another of which is the commonly-held feeling that there is NO reason to allow a player to play a character which has no paid the same cost of entry to achieve a high level.

You are completely able to play adventures with your friends - playing up by several APLs is always an option in LG.

I'm not THAT concerned about it.
It would just be nice. Especially since the end of the world is coming up.
As I'm sure you know playing up is usually not an option at tables boasting 14+ players. You seriously hinder the party when you do that.
Although I wasn't aware that XE was just a campaign and not a living realm. That changes my suggestion all together. I've been playing a bit since February and just gained level 6 last night at my local game shop. It's definitely possible I could catch up...

Besides if people start flaming me they are just silly. It's a suggestion :P
I'm not a big fan of Eberron so thats not really an option.

With that out of the way, any suggestions on how to catch up then? Besides playing every hour possible.

See if you can find people who need to play the various Adapted modules (WotC "buy-in-the-store" modules that have been adapted for LG play). Some of them, like Red Hand of Doom, are very lengthy, but others (like the "Fantastic Locations", such as Fane of the Drow and Fields of Ruin) are playable in an afternoon, and give pretty substantial XP and GP awards.

You'll be hard-pressed to get from 6th to 14th, but you can certainly pick up a few levels that way.

Several.

ADPs are huge. Fane, Frostfell, and Fields of Ruin are all fairly quick bites for a good LG table... Multiround battle interactives are about where these fall for challenge/runtime/plot ratio.

Conventions: If there are any in range to attend, a regional con (or better yet, an out-of-region con) can net you 7-8 rounds of play in a weekend. Welcome to your next level... Two cons, gets you the region's plot for the wrapup!

Online game day is a yahoo group where online-playable games (ADP, CGR, COR, INT prefix adventure codes) are organized.

Depending on the APL16 table, they're glad to bring along even a level 1 character, as long as they know to be wary of things like standing in the middle of the fireball formation....

I've had tables where the 3-playing-on-8 provides key abilities, or just good story... Playing or judging.

Just watch out for mindless enemies with tactics that say they engage randomly...

Really, you pretty much need to do the following:
Play Sinister Spire
Play Expedition to Greyhawk Ruins part 1
Play Fortress of the Yuan-Ti
Play Expedition to Greyhawk Ruins part 2
Play Dragondown Grotto
Play Expedition to Greyhawk Ruins part 3
Play Expedition to Greyhawk Ruins part 4

That should put you up to about 12th level - probably doable in about 80 hours of playing with a solid party.

..and that's without RHoD :)

...which is 80 hours for your next character who plays any of the following that you haven't already:

in order:
INT7-01,
CGR7-01a, (or 7-02a since they are the same)
Scourge of the Howling Horde,
INT7-02,
..03,
..04,

Then in any order:
The rest of the CGRs
fane of the Drow
Barrow of the Forgotten King
Red Hand of Doom
Anything else that comes along (all the Cores, Regionals and Metaregionals)

ending with Demonweb Pits and Hellspike Prison.
