| Necrochaos01-01-07, 01:05 PM | I'm currently a 4th level Marshall/2nd level Paladin Str 14, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12 and Cha 16. I'm working towards Knights of Furyondy at 10th level as I won't have the BAB before then. Current feats are: Leadership, Mounted Combat, PA and Weapon Focus Heavy Mace (I'm a Pelorite) I'm trying to decide what to do for levels 7-9. If I take a fighter level, assuming that True Believer is a fighter bonus feat (which I can't decipher) I could take TB and then two levels of Pious Templar. Or, I could take 2 levels of fighter to get two bonus feats (such as Cleave, Improved Smiting) and another level of paladin for the saves and Aura of Courage. Or I could take 3 more levels of Paladin for the Turn undead and Paladin Mount (which would be cool for a Knight). I can't decide which is the most beneficial to my character. My saves are pretty good right now at 12, 4 and 8 at 6th level. I'm looking for suggestions on what will be the best path for me. |

A CL5 mount at APL8/10 is not going to do you much good. I'd suggest you take your pick of either one or two levels of Fighter for feats (not Cleave or Improved Smiting - these are junk. Aim for Shock Trooper), two levels of Paladin for Turn Undead to power Divine Might or Sacred Healing (but not one level of Paladin, it's not worth it), or marshal levels. If you go straight marshal you'll take a BAB hit, delaying your PrC progression, but your major aura will bump up one so if you've taken Motivate Attack you're effectively the same in combat. Check through your ARs, too. You might have access to a nice prestige classes from Libris Mortis or such that would be worth cherry-picking a first or second-level class feature from. |

Paladin is a deceptive class that gets better and better as you advance. You don't have Ride-By and Spirited Charge, so you are not greatly invested in a survivable mount. Does K of Furyundy advance a special mount? If not, that special mount is mostly a storage device. Paladin 4 will get you spells and turn undead, which lets you grab a tasty turn feat. The extra smite/day for Pal 5 is useful and goes well with Power Attack, but if you're not sticking with the class, a level of fighter probably serves you better. How do you feel about experience penalties? Some people hate them, some consider -20% experience an advantage. |
