| Mithrus02-02-06, 11:15 AM | I wasn't able to find any posts addressing this issue. According to RoW, elvencraft bows cost 300gp more, but do not include costs for masterwork. As a contrast, in RoS, dwarvencraft weapons cost 600gp, but are already considered masterwork. So my question is: is the cost for a masterwork elvencrafted longbow (as an example) 700gp or 1300gp? The second number assumes paying MW cost a total of three times, since you now have a "triple weapon" of sorts (longbow and quarterstaff). Why WotC didn't clarify this seems a mystery to me. |

After looking at the swordbow, I wish I could get access to one :) Help me with the breakdown (great swordbow): Total price: 7150gp 350 <- MW Greatsword 800 <- MW Longbow (+4) 4000<- +1 enhancements x 2 Where does the other 2000gp price come from? Since the description references elvencrafted, even adding that cost somewhere doesn't make the numbers add up. Either a MW elvencrafted longbow is +300 or +900 for the MW portion of the cost, but I ask again, which? On a related note, how should the material type be handled? Can you craft a swordbow from adamantine, or darkwood? what is the hardness/HP? |
| Iswald02-03-06, 11:25 PM | You could be paying extra for the weapon to instantly change from being a bow into a sword. Elvencraft bows are always in the form of bows, they're just sturderier and can be used to beat people. The Swordbows actually change from being bows into being swords. The relationship between the two is conceptual. |
| Mithrus02-06-06, 01:17 PM | Could I get a circle response for this topic? What is the cost of a masterwork elvencraft longbow (composite+0)? I just need to know if the MW portion is 300gp, 900gp, or some other mythical figure. Thanks. |
| ithardin02-08-06, 08:39 PM | since it does not say that an elvencraft bow is considered masterwork, I broke down the costs for my elven archer's bow like this: Longbow: 75gp Masterwork: 300gp Elvencraft: 300gp Total: 675gp Does that mean that the quarterstaff function of the bow is considered masterwork as well? I don't know. I would argue that it does. The reason enchantments have to be added seperately is becuase different parts of the bow are being used, however, since the bow is one solid piece of wood I would say that as a staff it would also be masterwork. Anyhow, that's my opinion. |

| Arvagor02-14-06, 11:11 AM | I need to get over to Veluna, your triad sound like incredibly brilliant people.I just don't see why people see this as such a complicated issue. The text in RotW says an elvencraft bow costs 300gp more than a normal one. A normal masterwork longbow costs 375gp, therefore a masterwork elvencraft longbow must cost 675gp. There is no quarterstaff "component" that also needs to be masterwork, as the item is simply a bow -- albeit, a quite sturdy one that holds up when you smack people with it... In the absence of a more complicated explanation of the item's cost, the simplest one (and the one you, I, and my triad came up with) works -- Occam's Razor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor) wins again... |
| ithardin02-14-06, 12:53 PM | The fun part for me was that the elven clan I belong to in Verbobonc allows a 10% discount off "elvencraft" bow. So did that mean 10% off the total cost, or just 10% off the elvencraft part of it (since an elvencraft bow can be made non-masterwork)? I figured it was only 68gp so I wasn't going to sweat it (until that time I need a potion of CLW and realized that I could've bought it with the money saved on my bow-he he he). |

If you think about it, you can't get a bow made and then turn around and have the elves make it thicker and sturdier, as it would mess up how the bow flexes. Also, if you read the Close-Fighting Blade modification after the Elvencraft Bow, it mentions the cost for either adding or including with the creation of the blade. So the 10% should be off the entire bow. |
