A friend pointed me to here, apparently my name came up in something.

Britt, I wish you'd just spoken to me, I know you have my contact information.

For those who wish to know, yes, I have a character named Bob, he is a Mystic Theurge. No, I'm not Bob_the_Theurge.

The discussion Britt referenced over at the LG Yahoogroup was actually started by Paul Hostettler, who was on the same table Jaime Flores and I were on.

I kind of like the new Snow Elves option, it sounds like fun. Unlike Bob, I don't see the Crystalmist region thing as a big deal, it's going to be on my 6th character if I make one anyways, and it allows that character to avoid that nasty "Wanted by the Church of Iuz" score stuff just by avoiding BK/IUZ mods for a year or so if the score gets too high.

As regards Blasphemy, based on past table rulings in our region, I stand with my fellow DM's when saying I don't like it and would prefer it banned. But that's based on two major questions that are being hotly debated both on the LG and BK yahoogroups right now.

First question is how the scaling for the spell works, whether an 18th level Blasphemy kills 8th and lower characters and paralyzes 12th or lower, or kills 12th and lower characters and paralyzes 16th or lower.

Second question is whether the weakening effect stacks with itself or not - at the table from last weekend, the ruling at table was that it did, and Jaime's character (26 STR dwarven fighter) got knocked down all the way to 1 functional strength from multiple Blasphemies and a ray of enfeeblement.

Like I said, these are being hotly contested on the yahoogroups right now, and if they both came out the less powerful way, Blasphemy would probably be just fine. Maybe we can get this fixed in dispel confusion or the faq.

Anyhoo, that's all I have to say. Keep it fun guys.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a girlfriend who lives in Niagara Falls?

Welcome to the forums Michael!

Now that we have this case of mistaken identity sorted, let's all hope that 'Bob_the_theurge' doesn't rear his ugly head again... :)

To be fair, this doesn't really mean much, one way or the other.

My "Classic" with a wink was my not-so-subtle way of showing doubt.

Agreed. Maybe Mike wasn't registered before and he came here to register and post after someone told him about some topics here.

Even if it is the same person with a new login and an attempt to approach their concerns from a new direction, does it matter? It was never actually the person that anyone was frustrated with, but the tone Bob_the_Theurge's poster took and their manner of dealing with problems. I'll assume that MichaelAhlf is a different person, and find it irrelevant even if I'm wrong.

Welcome to the RPGA boards. Not everything is perfect here, but we do what we can.

Good point...

Even if it is Bob, if he doesn't act like he has in the past, I don't really care...

It's his poorly constructed arguments, belligerent tone, and disrespect for nearly everyone that are an issue...Not his true identity...

On a side note, since you do play mystic theurge, any spells or feats you could suggest one to take? I plan on making one for Greyhawk ruins.

Britt,

I just registered to clear the air surrounding this. I really, really wish you'd just asked me personally, this could have been cleared without dragging my name through the mud.

GreatSiron,

For a theurge? Your feat choices depend a lot on what you're trying to do. The biggest issue for the Theurge is that they'll only get 6 feats over their career, or 7 if you play as a human.

Two of those have to be Practiced Spellcaster, because you can't do without the caster level. Spell resistance will kill you.

I highly recommend that one of them be Create Wondrous Item. Theurges are one of the few classes with access to just about every crafting-enabled spell in existence, and the ability to make your own stat-bump items means you can now have the +6 earlier. You'll need it, too, because you have to split your stats between Con, Int/Cha, or Wis at the least.

For the rest, take one feat to use your turn attempts on. You can easily get to 16+ Charisma, which leaves you at least 6 turn attempts. The feat from PHB2 that lets you mimic Reach Spell for your buffs and healing will help by letting you stay out of the reach of enemies. If you want to be a healer-type, Theurges can benefit well from augment healing. I've had good luck with Sacred Boost, which lets me buff up any other healers in the party and share the maximizing effect.

If you're a wizard/cleric, metamagic won't be your greatest friend. You don't have the spell levels to really exploit it. If you're a sorceror/cleric, metamagic becomes more useful because it can be done on the fly, and it lets you be more thrifty with your choice of spells at higher level. If you can cast Empowered Fireball, you don't to learn need a fifth level damage spell.

The rest is really up to what you want to do with the character. If you have more info, I could give more suggestions. The build really does change a lot depending on the choice of primary arcane class, because their memorization and learning patterns are so different.

Hi

Definitely agree with the CWI as posted. My main (Clr 3/Warmage4/Theurge1) is taking CWI at 9th. It's not just the stat bump items - it's other things like Pearls of Power, especially if you're a Wiz/Clr/Theurge.

Wands could be useful - especially for Lssr Vigor. (same price as CLW, but 11HP healed).

Cheers

Im going to go ahead and post a build plan on the character forums, since that is the place for them.

First question is how the scaling for the spell works, whether an 18th level Blasphemy ... or kills 12th and lower characters and paralyzes 16th or lower.

This is not an option however you stretch the wording of the spell.

1) It's dependent on HIT DICE
2) It's just so silly it's astounding:
- you'd have to declare 7HD creatures immune to the CL18 Blasphemy (but killed by the CL14 one)
- You render the first 3 lines of the table redundent and it also kills the 17HD creatures!
