I'm play a generalist wizard but will be taking leadership and CWI and perhaps another craft feats or two so I don't have alot of feats to waste on a bad choice. |

At 9th level, of course, you'd be able to toss Empowered Fireballs and Lightning Bolts, which can be really nice. There are a few other spells it would help (I think it'd affect Summon Monster, when you drop down a level of monster to get more than one), but mostly it pumps up your damage-dealers. A lot of the other metamagic feats, to me, feel like they'd be useful in particular circumstances (i.e., Silent Spell when you're sneaking up on someone, Still Spell when you don't want to have to worry about having a hand free, etc.), but those benefits don't seem to be worth the higher spell level, IMO. |
| Sieylianna04-23-04, 05:21 PM | Unfortunately, the metamagic rods have made it more difficult to select metamagic feats. I have the extend spell feat, but I also have a rod of lesser extend for my daily mage armor and false life spells. The revised persistent spell feat in the players guide to Faerun has extend as a prerequisite and I expect to see Persistent spell in the complete Arcane book. I have the chain spell feat, but it lost some usefulness in 3.5. I mostly use it for Greater Magic Weapon (16 +4 weapons can help significantly in combat) and Enlarge Person. Finally, I have quicken spell. This feat is highly desirable. A chained enlarge person followed by a quickened haste is quite effective when you're in a fighter heavy party. If you live long enough, you will want spell penetration and greater spell penetration. I started to see SR at APL 6 in year two and it becomes common at higher APL's. Ed |

Empower spell is good but I'm waiting until 9th to get that. I've thought of getting Maximize spell a bit later and probably won't get Quicken. +4 levels is just too high when characters will be retired at 16th level shortly. Since I'm just starting my mage, I shouldn't be too high of a level when Complete Arcane comes out in November. I bet they'll have plenty of great new feats in that book. |

| Mondrin04-24-04, 12:12 AM | whoops. I read that wrong in the new guide. Sorry. They are indeed valid. It was the rods of substitution I was thinking about. Sorry. |
