Has anyone seen Mithral Chain (shirt or mail) Barding access? To the best of my knowlege it's not core access. Any metaorgs offer access?

My druid obtained mithral chain shirt barding for her tiger. It came through a module, but the AR gave you the ability to have an item to which you have access (like chain shirt barding which is core) made from mithral.

Wait...so if a module says "you have access to a mithral armor or weapon", we can still get barding, right?

I don't think so. If you want a "Large" Greatsword, you must get access to one on an AR. If you want that large greatsword to be masterwork, so you can upgrade it later, the AR must specifically state masterwork large greatsword. I believe barding works the same way, but that is why I posted the question. I think you need an AR that state "Mithral Chain Barding". But I sure hope you're right.

That's...stupid. You can't buy Large Greatswords?

Not unless you, yourself are Large (e.g., a centaur). Only Small and Medium weapons have normal access.

I've not seen barding as such, but I've seen a few favors with "make any one metal item from mithril" type favors. My monk has one, he's toyed with the idea of a mithril crowbar a few times, my sorceress has one that will likely become a mithril buckler and my wife's druid got one that she used to make barding for her animal companions.

If it says "get any mithril ARMOR" then maybe. Ask the triad who published the mod, or circle if it is a core mod to see if they think barding should work. Any mithril "item" will work, of course. Barding, including for size large animals, is PHB core stuff, and usually such favors tie back to the PHB somehow or are "any metal item you have access to" kind of logic.

My arcane archer, meanwhile, gets about a zillion AR items with mithril on it, and many even with mithril shield access, but they've all excluded mithril buckler somehow. Which of course is what he wants :)

Metaorgs can no longer offer special material access. You'll get it on an AR, or nowhere.

It's out there. You will either need specific mithril barding access in the bottom box (really unlikely), or a favor that says something like 'any mithril armor', 'one item of mithril', etc.

For the record, my (7) characters have a mithril chain shirt, mithril buckler, mithril full plate, mithril shield, mithril chain shirt barding, and access to three more suits of mithril armor that I just don't need.

Mods that have 'mine' or 'dwarf' in the description seem to work well for rare metals. Go figure.

The Main 3.5e FAQ has some interesting perspectives on the price of mithral barding.

Yeah, I'am going off topic, but mithril crowbar = improvised weapon? Now I am kinda curious about the intent behind this.

mithril anything = half the weight

If your'e that wealthy, you've probably got mithril cookware, mithril tent stakes, etc.

I've written a mod that offers mithral access and it's not a spoiler to tell you that since it's obvious from the blurb. Also the title of the mod has "Mine" in it.

Unfortunately, that does you no good if you don't live in or near Michigan.

regarding mithril crowbar...it's really durable and it's a status symbol and it weighs less.

But yeah, it's more of a statement than anything sensible.

Plus, what else is a monk going to do with mithral?

Mithral weapons give almost no benefit (15 hardness vs. 10 for steel is about it), and any mithral armor or shield causes the monk to lose most class abilities.

I keep looking for a one or two pound metal item that I want anyway to make into mithril :)

It's too damn expensive otherwise.
