I can't seem to find any info on these mods that I may be playing at ConnCon at the end of March. One of my friends coming with me has only one character, level 8, and I wanna make sure he'll be able to play those at an appropriate APL before he signs up for them. Anyone got any info on these?

All of the Bissel content I remember seeing in year 7 went APL2-10 or higher (much more accessible than the KEO7 content, sadly).

I don't anticipate a deviation from that trend being likely, but I don't have anything concrete to offer to support that.

Every Bissel mod I've seen has covered the full allowed APL range (i.e. 2-12 for most mods, 2-16 for one mod per year). They're good like that. I'm sure your friend will be able to play with his L8 character, provided enough PCs of the same level sign up. What I'm waiting to find out is whether 8-01 or 8-02 allow APLs higher than 12, since my preferred Bissel PC is a game and a half from L14 ;)

There are 1, maybe 2 APL 16 tables that typically play at ConnCon (us and Daren's group if they come). Though it looks like Tracy and a few others will be playing Severance at APL 16! We'll be playing BIS8-02 in slot 9 and I'm not sure if we're even going to get BIS8-01 in.

Here's hoping that BIS8-02 goes up to APL 16! Jay always throws something special in for the Sons of Thunder in the high APLs of the Bissel mods/interactives.

Yeah, it depends on what APL BIS 8-01/02 are. My Monk/Sorcereress/Paladin of Al'Akbar should be 14th level at the interactive part. I'll likely be at Tracy's table, except with Severance(as I can play Sheldomars anywhere, not Bissel mods)

Well, it also depends on what happens for the other mods, too - I'd like to get to play the year 8 mods at a higher than 12 apl if possible. ;-)

BIS7-01, 8-01, 8-02, Interactive = 4 mods potentially possible at APL 14-16...

I'm hoping to play some high level Bissel mods myself, but since i missed Anonycon i'm looking more to finish the year 7 mods. Gimbo (my Lyrist) is 13th level, and he's got an 11th level druid cohort. I'm hoping to play 7-05 in slot 8, 7-06 in slot 9, and 7-08 in slot 12.

BIS7-01 is too easy to bother at APL 16. It's WAY more fun if you play it at a low APL. Trust me on that one.

Beggars can't be choosers - there simply aren't a lot of APL 16 options left in LG. Not to mention, it isn't just about the mod.

It will be the major opportunity of the characters to play near the level that the interactive will be at - that way, the interactive isn't the 1st time we've all sat down at the same table with these characters.

Based on things Dave has said, I would expect Reverence to be a MUCH tougher and fun challenge than the interactive. You should definitely try and get on that table - especially with Dave running it.

IME, the interactives at both Conn Con and Annonycon are more role-played focused and not meant to be as challenging combat-wise as other interactives (both in Bissel and elsewhere). One of the triad members confirmed this to me. I have played in at least 4 of the last 6 interactives at thos cons at APL12+ and found them easy to the point of boredom (combat-wise). That is not to say they aren't fun - they are and often have great storylines (invasion of Ket, election of a Margrave, etc) - but they are not challenging.

If you want to really test your mettle at challenging High Level LG, I am sure Dave will be more than happy to oblige you with his mod. :)

WARNING: This adventure features dangerous challenges, untiered encounters and extreme situations; parties should be well-prepared before embarking on this adventure. Unbalanced parties or parties without arcane spell-casting may find this adventure to be too difficult to complete successfully.

Daren

My intention for the module was to write a seriously epic, two-round finale that makes even the best players nervous, but is fun for all. I hope to see players standing from their seats, sweating, but smiling the whole time. I'll admit - this mod is really challenging. Don't bother sitting down if you don't have a balanced party. With that said, the module is certainly not unfair, and I obviously didn't go overboard, and I've had to tone it down some... unfair or nearly impossible modules aren't fun for anyone. I would just put this at the core special level for challenge rating, with the optional encounter going a little beyond that.

My other judge running this at ConnCon is seriously prepped to make it a fun and challenging experience (Jolyon i.e. Maesto).

For those of you who intend to pass on the module with the expectation to catch it some other time - I recommend you reconsider. You'll have well-prepped judges (and probably the author) running you through a module that's certain to be a challenge, and promised to be a fun time!

See you all at ConnCon!

Bzzt! Slots 7 and 8 are where it's at, Jay! ;-) We're shooting for 16 in BIS7-01 in slot 4.

But yeah, seriously, if you want an adrenaline rush - go sign up to play Severance. Dave's done a really great job of pulling it all together, and the module only requires two and a half trees if you want to print it out ;-) (No joke - this is the longest module I have EVER seen) It's offered twice - Friday morning and afternoon, and Saturday morning and afternoon. I'm only running it Saturday, and I've dibsed the APL 16 table. After the PCs stop laughing at Dave's quirky attempt at "Roleplay", I expect players to be feeling the rush of a challenging mod for just about the whole game. Screw the core special, this mod is where it's at if you consider yourself (or perhaps your PC) a hero of the Sheldomar Valley ;-)

Sure. The current table looks like this:
Andy(me) - Enlightened Fist Tank 13
Copper Wyrmling - Dervish 14 or 13
Maesto - Wizard 15
You - Druid 14

Just need 2 more players to fill it out and therefore bump up to APL 16.

I haven't yet played SHE7-06, and I really don't know what's in it. Granted, there'll probably be some anachronisms if you play Severance before A Topaz Is Forever, but I don't think there's really any spoilers in the module (and I'm fairly intimate with it ;)). (Come join us on Saturday, Jay!)

I'm pretty sure Maesto still has that stupid "obtain a celestial version of any animal or animal companion from the PHB" favor, no? ;)

But yes, I need to get my dervish up to L14 before the Friday of the convention - he's a game and a half away. I was hoping to get there via slot-zeroes, but I'm going to be really busy for the remaining weekends before the con, so might not work so well unless they happen on weeknights. Those aren't the mods I'm playing with my low level character, but I'm going to try to play my Favored Beguiler of Pelor at APL 4-6 at some point during the convention, get him up to 6th level.

The best part will be if I can play him twice. Then he'll be able to cast Recitation at APL 6.

Oh, it is much worse than that...basically, if you met someone with all the spells that he casts, you'd believe his claim - that he's a Favored Soul of Pelor. The only thing stopping anyone from believing that is that we players all know that Favored Souls don't cast Glitterdust...

Very cute. I'd be interested to hear your role-playing considerations on some of your choices. Why the healing domain? Was there a spell pre-requisite in there somewhere that I didn't catch? I'm not sure how useful casting the random un-augmented cure spell really is over another domain. I think the overall concept is REALLY cool, but I wouldn't have picked all of those domains personally (aside from Purification, which rocks). You also didn't include Greater Mirror Image in your 4th level spell list, which is arguably one of the greatest (overpowered) spells to hit 3.5, and in my opinion, one of the top three reasons to play a Beguiler. In general, very unique and stylish character, bravo!

Dude, you're not going to convince *anyone* you're a favored soul of Pelor without throwing some cures on your own, or at least using a happy stick. I suppose you could fake the latter with a good enough UMD, though it would be really embarrassing to fail that. :)

Thanks!

The big thing is as Lightblade mentioned - gotta be able to cast a healing spell or two - a lot of my choices are to sell the idea that he really, truly is a Favored Soul of Pelor. He heals, he casts cleric buffs and divinations. Even an offensive spell or two. Pelor even talks back to him once he hits 7th level. Also, his UMD won't be high enough until he's around 9th level to consistently make that happen from a scroll or happy stick.

He's not the most overwhelmingly powerful character out there, but he covers so many roles in any given party that he's essentially one of the more tweaked out utility builds I've seen - he provides strong trapfinder, spotting(+15 Spot at 5th+See Invisibility as spontaneous), and if you have him in the party, you might not notice you're missing a cleric and/or wizard. He can't heal the party all day long in combat, but if someone needs to drop some healing on the tank to get him back into the fight, he can do it without a big resource expenditure - as you mentioned, at 8th+, he's got Greater Mirror Image - he can likely run up to the tank, slap him with the Healing, then retreat without taking a full attack in return.

But roleplaying considerations are also huge here - he's this horribly sunburnt maniac who looks like he should be twitching on the ground, that's how bad off he looks. Yet he acts just as you'd think a Favored Soul of Pelor with his spell list, skills and a 16 Int/14 Wis ought to act - thoughtful, intelligent, and tactical. A little in disbelief about how many people question him on is he really a Favored Soul of Pelor. He often describes how Pelor is influencing his actions in combat - when he casts Glitterdust, he says something along the lines of "May you see only the Light of Pelor!" When he finds traps, I pretend it is him seeing the light of pelor that only he can see, guiding him on how to find and disable traps.

Find and Disabling Traps is actually something I use to point out just how great a god Pelor is - all other gods give Find Traps as a spell known, but all that does is point out where traps might be. Pelor is the only deity to therefore have thought this through - give a long duration(all day) and show how to get rid of them. Makes you doubt those other gods existence, right? Why would they do something so silly?

;)

Yeah, that's the one thing I'm not certain about - I'd assume Jay is going to provide more than that. I'd guess the following:
ConnCon is going to have the last interactive that's relevant to the current storylines.

Later on, there'll be a Bissel mod that ties up any remaining loose ends and will be the finale.

Well, so much for playing BIS8-02 in slot 9. They added another Interactive round in Slot 9. Yay for a two-round interactive that takes place on Saturday night and Sunday morning! Boo for missing both regional premieres because I have to kill... err, I mean "run" people in Severance.

Who is playing the interactive at APL 14 with the Sons of Thunder? We only have a two (maybe three) man team.

They added another interactive round? I need to go change my sign-up.

I'll be playing my (hopefully) L14 dervish in the interactive.

If you need some arcane accompaniment, Gimbo's your gnome.

Sounds good to me. So far we have Halamur, Nicos, Gimbo, Garfoodle and Opa. We'll need a Cleric for Saturday night... Dan can't make it until Sunday morning.

We'll fill in the last slot or two as needed.

What APL/mod is this all/mostly gnome sounding table looking for? Because my gnome druid 14 (possibly 15 or 13 by saturday night) is always happy to play with his brethren....

Hey, don't forget there's another table that you're actually playing with earlier on in the convention...

Dervish 14, Wizard 15, Enlightened Fist 14

Hey, it was good to finally put some faces to names. Other than what was going on with the hotel situation(my kingdom for a cup of decent coffee in the morning), it was a great convention. Not a single table where there was an unprepped judge or player who made you want to smack your head against a wall.

Anyway, I'll have to see if I can get to one more LG con before it is all over - again, had a great time.

I agree, I met a few people I had known only by name and that was a pleasant addition. ConnCon was indeed a lot of fun, even if the venue has certainly seen it's better days. ConnCon is usually hands down the best con in terms of venue because the hotel is so cool and the bar is the best place to hang out in between rounds. This year, the crowded gaming floor was pretty uncomfortable and a bit gross (in terms of smell and trash).

The Con itself was run very well and I really enjoyed judging. It was good to finally put a face to your name, Andy, even if it was for 20 half-asleep minutes on Friday morning. Thanks for being so prepared when I clearly wasn't!

I think it was only because you tried yet again to recruit me for Severance :)

Which I am looking forward to playing!
