I started playing RPGA this year and have a level 1 cleric which I recently leveled and I would like to multiclass monk. I have play in Verbobonc. My local group here recommended that I create a background for my character. The only problem is that I know nothing about the history of greyhawk and am horrible with details. I was hoping someone with a little insight into the greyhawk campaign could give me some advice.

Are there any well known Monk sects in Ulek? I am cleric of St. Cuthbert which is a likely candidate for a monk god. Why would a cleric want to become a monk instead? Personally I do not like standing back and waiting for some one to get hurt so I can come to their aid, nor do I like to be the party diplomat. I do enjoy being able to help others, but want to also have some offensive abilities which my cleric did not possess. Would I have to spend TU's to train in a monastery?

One thing that I can say for sure is that it does not cost extra TUs to multi-class. It's assumed that the normal TU expenditure for a given mod includes time taken out to train in whatever class you level in next. =)

I don't know if there are monastaries in ulek but there are ones in many of the countries that border Ulek.

I suggest you check out the metaorgs in Ulek. Here's the page:
http://www.thepou.net/index.php?section=metagame&page=1

In particular, there's the Church of the Cudgel and the Order of the Iron Palm.

The Principality of Ulek used to have a meta-org called the Order of the Iron Palm. Its no longer a part of the official meta-orgs since the release of the new documents. However, it is still a recognized role-playing organization, and would be very appropriate. I don't recall it being aligned with any particular churches, although Cuthbert is an officially recognized deity in the PoU. The pou.net website might not be too helpful, as its outdated and hasn't been updated in a while.
