Hi folks,

The gigantic adaptable adventure ADP8-03 Expedition to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk is now available. Keep in mind that you'll need to purchase a copy of the adventure (you can get it in most hobby game and book stores) to run it.

Also, COR8-04 Bridge Over Svartjet has been released today as well. The wait is finally over!

8, 10, 10, 12

What do you mean by TUs? Why would they cost any?

Even if going through a mod doesn't cost TUs, the TUs of a mod gives an idea of how to plan them out. A couple of people in my group have only one high level and one low level character - which creates conflict between Sinister Spire, Expedition to Greyhawk, Dragondown Grotto, and Fortress.

i.e. is it possible to play all of 'em without being way out of APL for one or more of them...

Specifically it almost always indicates exactly how many xp each gives.
Since these are adaptables and are treated as cores, you divide the TUs by 2, then multiply it by the normal xp for that APL.

I really like the tassek.anang website.

http://www.tassek.anang.com/blurbs.html#adp803

Apparently, the rewards are:
Part One - APL8, 5625xp, 6500gp
Part Two - APL10, 4050xp, 6900gp
Part Three - APL10, 6750xp, 11500gp
Part Four - APL12, 7875xp, 16500gp
Total possible rewards - 24300xp, 41400gp

Dividing by APL-typical rewards gives 10, 6, 10, and 10 TUs.

yeah, that wasn't up yesterday. Seems like you need to play Fortress(or other mods) in there or you might have issues playing part 4 at full XP/Gold. Especially if you start with a 7th level character.

Using the APLs and XP from above:

The following assumes no mid-AR leveling and/or mid-AR leveling still delivers 1/2 for the part being played; if that's incorrect per the ADP, these points will move lower. If playing straight through and getting full XP:

Starting Part 1 with 5th level = half xp throughout
Starting Part 1 with 6th level = half xp for parts 2, 3, and 4
Starting Part 1 with low 7th level (22374xp or lower) =half xp for parts 2 & 4
Starting Part 1 with most 7th level (22375xp or higher) =half xp for part 4 only
Starting Part 1 with low 8th level (28575xp or lower) =half xp for part 4 only
Starting Part 1 with most 8th level (28575xp or higher) =full xp for all 4 parts

These are some target points if you are seeking to avoid xp hit later in mod, die, get less than full xp, etc.

28575 is minimum starting xp to avoid half xp for part 4 if straight through.
34200 is minimum starting xp at beginning of part 2 to avoid half xp for part 4 if straight through.
38250 is minimum starting xp at beginning of part 3 to avoid half xp part 4 if straight through.
45000 is minimum starting xp at beginning of part 4 to avoid half xp part 4

Ah, on the cover of the mod it says 8-13, so you want to be at least 8th

Or six PCs of 7th level.

Or six PCs of 7th level.

The issue with that is you'll end up starting the APL 12 part with 9th level characters and getting half XP/Gold for it.

Say one of them has 24500 xp(exactly halfway) = 7th
+5625 = 30125 = 8th
+4050 = 34175 = 8th
+6750 = 40925 = 9th

Even if there's an option for leveling mid-AR, the character is still getting half XP for it. 7875/2 = 3937 + 40925 = 9th - he won't level. You could easily have a weak APL 10 table(mostly 9s, maybe half 10s) marching into the APL 12 final combats.

is it still required for the chars to be Greyhawk ruins chars ?
Timlagor

AFAIK there never was and was never intended to be any requirement for PCs to be CGR characters to play the ADP.

There is still the first CGR AR before level 2 requirement for playing the actual CGR modules.

Personally I'm planning to play Yuan Ti and probably one of the APL10 ADPs in between parts of the Greyhawk ADP.

this is what I was talking about

Yep that's not going away. It's not relevant to the ADP though.

I think that playing the ADP in LG is applicable to the first AR before first level req.
At least that's why we are all upset
if you can find articles otherwise pleeaassseeee!!

Timlagor is correct: The Greyhawk Ruins Sourcebook (ambiguously) indicates that a character must have a CGR adventure record in its stack before 2nd-level to keep the Domain of Greyhawk as a home region and to play any further CGR adventures. So, any CGR7 or CGR8 adventure can only be played with a character that meets that requirement.

That requirement does not apply to ADP8-03 Expedition to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk because it is an ADP, not a CGR. Any character can play Expedition to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk, regardless of Ruins of Discovery, or Crypts of the Forgotten, or any other forthcoming CGR adventure(s).

The (un)playability of the CGRs is an odd "rule" that I do not understand. The idea is so against the spirit of the Play More in Living Greyhawk (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lgcn/20070828a) announcement.
Timlagor

04-18-08, 08:15 PM
AFAIK nothing has ever said that that restriction would apply to the ADP. Indeed I seem to recall the ADP being specifically excluded when it was first announced.
