I am new to Living Greyhawk and will be attending Gencon Indy. I noticed several of the events are for characters up to 15th lvl.

Would I be able to make a 15th lvl character and bring him to play in the event? Or would I have to create a 1st lvl character? I would probably never use the character again.

Living Greyhawk begins with a 1st level character build, using 28 point buy. If you are planning on making up a character for the campaign, I would suggest you get yourself a copy of the Campaign Standards, available on the LG website. This isn't the greatest campaign to just play once - if you're going to play it, try and build a character up within the Campaign.

In case that last answer wasn't clear:

Yes, you have to start a Living Greyhawk character at 1st level.

If you need a more in-depth explanation...you start at Level 1, and you level up by playing games, or modules. The more modules you play, the more you'll level up. It's just like playing another part of a home campaign. There's certain rules and restrictions on allowed equipment.

Play Intro Mods until you're Level 2. Then stick with APL 2 games until Level 3. Play APL 4 games with caution until you're Level 4 or 5. It'll take a while, but you'll get up there eventually. Your character is retired at Level 16, so...that game is probably the last for many peeps.

Play Intro Mods until you're Level 2.

While that's good advice in general, it probably doesn't help the original poster much, since it sounds like he's playing a single LG mod at GenCon (where, since they don't offer Regional modules, there won't be an Intro mod available for play).

Can't you play the Intro mods for the respective region at Gencon?

Can't you play the Intro mods for the respective region at Gencon?

Nope; you can't play any Regionals at GenCon itself, except for during the "Regional Fiesta" slot. At the big conventions (GenCon Indy, GenCon SoCal, and Winter Fantasy; Origins also used to be on this list), only Cores are offered. On the other hand, the big cons *are* able to offer premieres, and Core Specials, so that's the tradeoff.

For several years, Winter Fantasy has offered a "Regional Fiesta" slot, one time slot in which you can play an LG module from *any* region (not just the region in which the convention is being held), as long as you can find a Judge who's actually from that region, and that Judge has to supply the module. GenCon's now offering this, too.

That said, there's a "Verbobonc Pre-GenCon Madness" event that's going on yesterday and today (the days *before* GenCon), in which you *can* play Verbobonc regionals, and VTF metaregionals. But, it's a completely separate event, with no connection to GenCon itself.

I know. Christopher Good is running it, I think...I'm not positive, but I know he posted something on the Furyondy e-Group. That being said, I know they're playing one APL 2-4 mod. So if the topic-starter got there fast enough, he could play.

Thanksfor all the responses. I will just start out at the beginning(1st lvl) as it was meant to be.
