I do recall back in the mid 90's of a second edition Greyhawk modual about the "Doomgrinder" and heck in my campaign that sucker came to a halt just before the walls of the city. So why start a mistery about something that came out in print over 10 years ago. Does 2nd edition count or is Wizards sorely lacking in their research dept? |

There are a couple of good reasons for the Mysterious Place's: Doomgrinder article. First, and perhaps most important, is that not every player in Living Greyhawk has or even knows about the 1998 AD&D 2nd Edition adventure by Steve Miller. The campaign has a lot of new players that were not around the last five years, let alone the last ten. It is important to foreshadow Doomgrinder for people that may have never heard of it. Second, I don't think the Mysterious Places article necessarily gives rise to a case of mass amnesia. It does not give us a conclusion to the original adventure. It does assume that the mystery is unresolved. Since the oroginal Doomgrinder was never part of a shared campaign, I think it is fair to assume that it never started on its rampage. There is no official result to rely on. So, the Living Greyhawk campaign is just making use of a great resource it has the right to use as it sees fit. Regrettably, it does not take into account what happened at your private game, and that's okay. It looks like there is potential to put the Doomgrinder to some good use as Living Greyhawk ends. I personally disliked the original adventure. I hope the Living Greyhawk campaign will make better use of the material - if it is to be part of the campaign's end. We don't really know if there is an "event" associated with Doomgrinder. Could be a red herring... |
