| Mcloud31303-03-05, 04:58 PM | Im a Herald GM, and I'd like to order an adventure for my homegame that will be played this sunday. However when I try it it says I have to be 18 years old and have a valid email. I am 17 years old but I do have my email within their data. Is there anyway I can get an adventure to run by sunday without having to call that play date off? I have five people expecting to play and it'll be sucky if I have to tell them we can't play because I can't get ahold of an adventure. |
| kenobi6503-03-05, 09:47 PM | Unfortunately, the "under 18" rule seems to be pretty hard and fast. The only good work-around I can think of is to get someone who's (a) an RPGA Herald-level GM, and (b) 18 or older order the event for you. At this late date, that may not be a feasible option for you. |
| oroborous03-03-05, 10:57 PM | It may not be honest, but why don't you change your birthdate in the database so that you are 18? |
| Amaril03-04-05, 11:48 AM | Regarding ordering adventures for home games, I just applied for membership so that I could do this. How long does it take to receive adventures and how far back are adventures available? Can I order adventures that don't take place in my region? |

(a) The files for regional adventures have to be requested from your Triad, after you actually set up your home play event on the RPGA event system. That'll vary depending on your Triad, but it usually doesn't take very long (you request them via e-mail). Core adventures are available for download from the RPGA web site as soon as you set up your event. (b) I believe that, right now, Year 4 (2004) and Year 5 (2005) adventures are available. The Year 4 modules will retire at the end of 2005. Older ones are retired, and aren't available for order or play any longer. (c) Nope. You can only order adventures from your region (and Cores), and the DM has to be from your region, as well. |

So, basically these adventures that take place aross all over the Flanaess cannot be used for personal home games that aren't even involved with Living Greyhawk simply because my state is not a part of that region. Wow, that's pretty lame. I'm usually much more polite than this, but that is the most frustrating thing I have ever heard. Not only does Wizards of the Coast not produce adventures specific to Greyhawk anymore, let alone additional setting material (no, I don't buy the "core/default setting" concept), but the only new material available is from the RPGA, and I can only obtain this year's core material or material for my region eve though I want to just reference them for my non-RPGA, personal Greyhawk campaign. Nice. :ahem: |

Actually...these adventures can't be used for personal home games that aren't even involved with Living Greyhawk AT ALL. Even if you're ordering a LG adventure for Home Play, you're STILL running an official LG event, and it's expected that you'll be following the rules for RPGA and LG play. The RPGA adventure library isn't something you can just download stuff from to play around with, and adapt for your home game. It exists to support official RPGA play. Sorry, but that's the way the system's set up. |
| Amaril03-04-05, 01:25 PM | OK, so say I download and adventure and run it "officially." What's to stop me from using it for personal games, too? |
| kenobi6503-04-05, 01:37 PM | OK, so say I download and adventure and run it "officially." What's to stop me from using it for personal games, too? Technically, there's a copyright statement on the front of the module stating that it's distributed solely for use in official RPGA play. Realistically, your conscience. :) |
| Amaril03-04-05, 01:50 PM | Ahh, see, I haven't even received one yet considering I JUST applied, so I had no idea. I still think it's all rather silly. I'm glad I buy issues of Dungeon magazine. I think I'll just go sign up for subscription today. You'd think that WotC would consider publishing the older stuff either for free or for a small price. Anyway, I give up. I'll just use what I can get my hands on outside of RPGA scenarios. |

I'll just use what I can get my hands on outside of RPGA scenarios. This is, honestly, among the top 5 questions that gets asked on this board. The issue has been that, until recently, the RPGA *only* bought the rights from the authors for "tournament use." So, releasing them for other uses wasn't feasible. More recent RPGA contracts, at least for Living Greyhawk modules, allow the rights to the modules to revert back to the authors after the modules retire -- however, the authors would have to strip out any Greyhawk-related IP before they could republish the modules elsewhere. I'm not sure if any of the LG modules that were written under the new contracts have retired yet. |
| Amaril03-04-05, 02:36 PM | Even better. Realy, you don't have to explain anymore. I'm just getting more frustrated. But thank you anyway. I sincerely appreciate your replies. :) |
| oroborous03-04-05, 10:40 PM | Amaril, in case you didn't get my PM, please email me at hughsonj @ yahoo.com PoU is a good region. You'll get the support you need. |
| TimRat03-07-05, 11:54 PM | The above poster was right about the older Living Greyhawk Adventures. Year 3 modules were written under the new contract rules so authors can do what he said (strip out all the greyhawk/dnd material) and put them out if they wish to do so. Thanks |
| Bardach03-08-05, 07:18 AM | An alternate method for younger DMs - put a parent or older sibling through the test (give them the answers if they know nothing about the game) then they can order for you. |

I sincerely appreciate your replies. :) I agree, it would be great to see some of those adventures, they sound interesting. Unfortunately it doesn't look likely. :( |
