Would anybody consider making a paladin with craft wand, primarily for the purpose of crafting wands of lesser restoration as a 1st level spell? Spend 1 TU and 1875 gp, and 150 xp, for 5 wands of Lesser Restoration....250 shots of it...Of course, it would take either a 10th level Paladin, or a 5th level Paladin with Practiced Spellcaster to be able to take Craft Wand...but still...I like the bargain potential....Also could be done as a Pious Templar 5th level, or 1st level with practice spellcaster...

Isn't the cost of creating a 1st level wand for Paladins 750 gp +60 XP each?

375 gp × the level of the spell × the level of the caster = 375 x 1 (1st level Paladin spell) x 2 (Paladin 4, but at half caster level) = 750 gp.

Selling cost is thus 1500gp

XP cost is thus 1/25 x 1500 = 60xp

Thus, each wand, being 1500gp, uses up 2 days to craft. But since you can only make items with a combined worth of 5000gp at one go, you can only make 3

So you can spend 1TU, 2250 gp, 180xp and get 3 wands of Lesser Restoration.

This IS better than if a Cleric or Druid made it. (1 TU for 1 wand, 2250gp, 180 xp)

Not worth blowing an entire feat slot, though. If you already had Craft Wand in your build for some reason and took a Pious Templar dip, though, that'd be a bit more understandable.

Why are you making it at caster level 2? Are you saying a paladin can't make CL 1 wands?

From the FAQ:

"Does a 1st-level wizard/4th-level rogue with Practiced Spellcaster qualify for a prestige class that requires “Spellcaster level 5th”?

No. This prestige class requirement doesn’t refer to your caster level (a value which can be modified by many feats, class features, and even temporary effects) but to your actual level in a spellcasting class. (If it helps, you can think of this requirement as “Spellcaster, 5th level.”) The same applies for characters whose caster level is less than their class level. A 5th-level paladin meets the “Spellcaster level 5th) requirement, even though her actual caster level is only 2nd."

I don't know what their intent is with regards to craft feat prereqs, though. The PH table has "Spellcaster level X", while the feat text has "Caster level X". The text is supposed to trump the table, but it might be worth sending a question in to WotC.

I'm not saying it. The DMG is saying it. The minimum level a paladin has to be to cast spells is Level 4. As the Caster level of a paladin is 1/2 their class level (from Paladin class description), the minimum caster level is 2.

You can craft items at less than your caster level. For example, a wizard who is fifth level can still craft a Scroll of Magic Missile at CL 1, and have it only do one missile instead of the three that a 5th level scroll would do. Why s/he would do this, I do not know, but it does mean that you can craft things at minimum caster level instead of your current caster level.

Also, wands can be crafted at multiple caster levels for the same spell, down to minimum caster level necessary for the spell (ie no Fireballs at CL 1). I'm pretty sure this means paladins with Craft Wand could craft wands at CL 1.

Maybe... but the cost listed in the DMG (There's a chart under Crafting of Magical items) and it's 750gp+60xp.

Was just following that.

Keep in mind, spells don't have a minimum caster level inherently. Spells have a minimum caster level based on the class casting them. Thus, the minimum caster level for a Scroll of Fireball is 5th for a Wizard and 6th for a Sorcerer. The minimum caster level for a Cure Moderate Wounds wand is 3rd for a Cleric, 5th for a Druid, 4th for a Bard, and 11th for a Ranger (Expensive wand!).

And, similarly, the minimum caster level to craft a Wand of Lesser Restoration is 3rd for a Cleric and 2nd for a Paladin.

The general reason you would do this is cost. A Scroll of Magic Missile made at 5th caster level costs 1 x 5 x 25 = 125 gold pieces. A Scroll of Magic Missile made at 1st caster level costs 1 x 1 x 25 = 25 gold pieces. Actual cost to make is 1/2 those numbers (and 1/25 that value in XP). A second reason you might make at lower caster level is if you want to give the item to a friend. If you routinely adventure with a 3rd level wizard, it may be optimal to make a Scroll of Magic Missile at 3rd level, rather than 5th, so that he doesn't have a 10% chance of failing to cast the scroll (due to caster level difference).
