| kinevon04-25-08, 04:58 AM | Read the plane shift spell :) Its the focus/component for it, and will be tied to a plane. Sigh. It should reference the PHB instead of the DMG, then. Oy. Thanks! And the ones I have access to do reference the planes involved. Of course, it doesn't help that, even if this character could ever cast spells, plane shift wouldn't be on the spell list. Heh. |

They can be useful if you've got a spellcaster with you and you need to get somewhere. |

And you never know when you might need to seriously bug out. Hate to go through the list of places you can go and it reads like the Ziggart's guide to Hell. |
| UMiskatonic04-25-08, 03:18 PM | It's also a really effective attack spell, which is a reason to buy it. Hand it off to a caster at the beginning of a mod. Unlike teleport, you CAN send unwilling people on a ride. |
| kinevon04-25-08, 03:26 PM | Yeah, at 100 gp, they won't break the bank. And you never know when you might need to seriously bug out. Hate to go through the list of places you can go and it reads like the Ziggart's guide to Hell. Hmmm. The ones I have access to cost only 50 gp each. Of course, I have access to 2 of them, so total is 100 gp. Maybe that's what you meant. But one of the planes I have access to is NOT for the unprepared. And the other is not for the sane. Sigh. And I will almost certainly have to go to one of them, if not both, in the next module in the series that gave access to the forks. Eek. Especially since one of the other items I got was a map of one of those planes. Amazing how many different planes you can travel to, even if you are barely 6th level.... |
| kinevon04-25-08, 03:28 PM | Unlike teleport, you CAN send unwilling people on a ride. Nasty mind. Burn, baby, burn!!!! |
| magebeast04-25-08, 05:06 PM | Nasty mind. Burn, baby, burn!!!! Just make sure the caster is certain whatever you're sending isn't carrying around the treasure! |
| MwaO04-25-08, 05:38 PM | Also be aware that they're illegal in some regions(well, at least, Keoland) |
| kinevon04-25-08, 05:45 PM | Also be aware that they're illegal in some regions(well, at least, Keoland) Well, the access was given in my home region, so I think they aren't illegal here. Although I think the plane one of them goes to is, by definition, illegal in my home region. Heh. The Pale can get a little weird, sometimes.... Then again, it might be a good way to get rid of those animated objects, as long as the object itself isn't valuable, since that hardness makes DR look like a nice thing. :( But that is probably because I am an archer, not a power attacker... |

That hasn't stopped Keoland from handing out access... |
| stonebasher04-25-08, 06:26 PM | That hasn't stopped Keoland from handing out access... I'm fairly sure I've got access to a 9 lives stealer somewhere around my BK AR's... Wes |
| magebeast04-25-08, 07:19 PM | I'm fairly sure I've got access to a 9 lives stealer somewhere around my BK AR's... Wes Yeah. Casey was drooling over the idea of hearing about somebody getting mind controlled and killing another PC with it. |

That definitely sounds like a place you would want to inflict on your enemies! |
| kinevon04-27-08, 05:28 PM | Oooooh, do tell! That definitely sounds like a place you would want to inflict on your enemies! Elemental Plane of Fire. Not for the unprepared. Limbo. Not for the sane. And, by definition, illegal in the Pale. Heh. Don'tcha love a place where Chaos is considered worse than Evil? Then again, in a recent mod, I had to sidestep one of my party's questions during a trial, since they asked if my character worships Pholtus. He doesn't. And, to make matters worse, I suspect that he just qualified for burning in the Pale, since he was just involved in setting a demon free from captivity... |

I had my character go through the whole Phostaldaran story line (Roots of Chaos, Florinomicon, etc) where he got the Ravening curse (I have the Fist of Emirikol so it got really interesting). In another Palish adventure I got "Chaos Wash" where some chaotic artifact really hosed me for a few TUs. So many things from the Pale hit me with chaotic things that my wizzy moved from NG to CN. My wife's archer went the opposite way to LN. So I figure what better path to take my poor, confused wizzy on than Wild Mage. The Palish Triad agreed, though they did caveat it with "Are you really sure? After all you'll be arrested if discovered." Of course, I'm pretty sure that most of Oerth's Alienists come from the Pale having started in years 4, 5 and 6. Alienist is just as outlawed there. |

Of course, I'm pretty sure that most of Oerth's Alienists come from the Pale having started in years 4, 5 and 6. Alienist is just as outlawed there. Heh. I wound up changing my god (Pholtus) to a different goddess (Ehlonna) because Pholtus isn't an archer... So, my character wound up as a True Believer in Ehlonna, because she felt like the best fit longbow deity. Heh. I still want the Quiver... And the only mod I have ever played that had it as an item was at an APL higher than I played it at. :( And I have to figure out how to get myself to save some money, so I can do things like get the Force enhancement that I now have access to for my bow... Not to mention the Healing enhancement for my armor (not because it is the best enhancement, but it'll work for my character when he rages). And, just think, if I can get my Wisdom up, I could pull off my pseudo-Paladin role off even better. I already use my healing belt to "lay on hands" at times, and I have access to the Paladin spell list, just not enough Wisdom to cast anything... And that healing belt has really reduced my use of my wand of cure light wounds, since 3 x 2d8 is useful at APL 6... Gotta say that, at a recent con (ConQuest Vegas), most of the mods I played was with the same assorted group of PCs, and that having a Bless and a Haste up turned my archer (6th level, Bab +6, Rapid Shot) from nasty into a fairly good killing machine. 4 shots, 3 of them at full attack bonus, with the potential of having an even better chance of hitting if I missed an early shot (Woodland Archer), didn't help our enemies. I have to say that the advice I received in another of my threads on this character's build has really helped. Oh, and I bought the forks. Hopefully I will get to play the final mod in the series soon, although I have to be careful, since I am trying to get a Sinister Spire group together, and my character is close to leveling to 7th (2 normal APL6 ARs). |

The one you must own is the one for the Material Plane it would have been great for one mod in particular that's now retired where you have to spend 14 T.U.s to get back. |
| Timlagor04-28-08, 02:46 PM | If you have Plane Shift you automatically have access to the Material Fork so that shouldn't be an issue. [can't remember if that's in the spell or the LGCS] |
| Vamroc04-28-08, 06:12 PM | Planer Shift Wizard 13 Cleric 8th It's neither open or closed so it's only available via AR access dispite the fact it's located in the PHB. |
| kinevon04-28-08, 06:24 PM | Planer Shift Wizard 13 Cleric 8th It's neither open or closed so it's only available via AR access dispite the fact it's located in the PHB. From page 17 of the LGCS 7.5: Plane Shift: You are assumed to have a planar fork for the Prime Material Plane. You must obtain access before purchasing any other planar forks. From page 26 of the LGCS 7.5: All base classes, prestige classes, feats, spells, and domains from the core rulebooks (PH, DMG, MM) are considered Open unless specifically noted otherwise in this appendix. And, on page 33, the Closed spell list does NOT specifically list Plane Shift, so it is Open in LG. I had that same issue, earlier, with Eldritch Knight, since the LGCS does not specifically list most items from the core books, and I forgot to include those PrCs in my Open list. |

Since when is Plane Shift NONC? Quoting the LGCS: All base classes, prestige classes, feats, spells, and domains from the core rulebooks (PH, DMG, MM) are considered Open unless specifically noted otherwise in this appendix. Plane shift is not noted as not open, therefore since it is in the PHB, it is open. |
| Vamroc04-28-08, 07:52 PM | And Now For Something Completey Different.... :surrender |
| _metz_04-28-08, 11:24 PM | I have actually seen access to a planar fork for Oerth before. That was in an old mod, so there may have used to been table variation on having a prime material plane fork. |
| kinevon04-28-08, 11:31 PM | I have actually seen access to a planar fork for Oerth before. That was in an old mod, so there may have used to been table variation on having a prime material plane fork. May have been a change between then and the latest version of the LGCS, too. |

| RanielK04-29-08, 10:21 AM | If you have Plane Shift you automatically have access to the Material Fork so that shouldn't be an issue. [can't remember if that's in the spell or the LGCS] It's in the LGCS. You get the fork for your plane (the Prime) and must have access to any other planes. It is a little annoying when people forget to include the Fork on the AR. You can go to this plane and hang out (and even spend the time collecting the necessary material for the fork), but you can't have the fork because someone left it off the AR. I've had characters go to Acheron, Mechanus and one other plane (forget where) and not get access. Though one guy has access to a Fork for the Plane of time. Evidentally Plane Shift (Plane of Time) + Miracle or Wish + Greater Teleport (inside the Plane) + Plane Shift (somewhere else) = Time Travel. You use the Miracle to learn where exactly you need to teleport to get the right time differential for the time travel, then greater teleport to go to that specific spot. |
| KarmaInferno04-29-08, 10:52 AM | Heh. I remember an old LC time travel mod. My character took a detour to a certain homeless beggar's hut and left a sum of gold under their pillow, exactly the amount one gets as a starting character. The character had always wondered who'd gifted her with that money. Now she knows. :) -karma |

Yeah, this sort of thing really puts a crimp in character development. My wizard is still waiting to find access to magic missile. ;) David |
| RanielK04-29-08, 01:08 PM | Yeah, this sort of thing really puts a crimp in character development. My wizard is still waiting to find access to magic missile. ;) David Man tell me about it! I had to sacrifice my left hand to Vecna to get access to Mage Armor. |
