| Arvagor09-09-06, 01:05 AM | What? You mean other than you immediately begin "drowning" (for lack of a better term)? Both the octopus and giant octopus have the (Aquatic) subtype, which means it doesn't breathe air. Although it is in the text for the Swim skill, the following text would remain relevant (IMO) for an (Aquatic) creature that is outside an underwater environment:You can hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to twice your Constitution score, but only if you do nothing other than take move actions or free actions. If you take a standard action or a full-round action (such as making an attack), the remainder of the duration for which you can hold your breath is reduced by 1 round. (Effectively, a character in combat can hold his or her breath only half as long as normal.) |

| clik_ml09-09-06, 04:27 AM | Well with a 13 con the giant octopus-form could hold its breath for 13 rounds or full combat. If your combat is lasting longer than 13 rounds when you get 8 attacks per melee then you're probably dead anyway. Polymorph is dismissable afterall, so once you are done holding your breath, just drop the form. |
| Japangirl09-10-06, 04:39 PM | Unfortunately, as an octopus if you get hit and go unconscious, or are rendered helpless (such as hold person) for any reason, you are completely screwed. You stop holding your breath automatically, and can't unform. You don't turn back into your base creature until you are dead, about two rounds after being dropped unconscious and starting to try to "breathe" air. |
