Bardach 04-21-05, 10:35 AM	In order to use a strand of prayer beads you have to first have cast a divine spell while wearing them. It does not say you have to have the ability to cast divine spells so does casting from a scroll using the skill count?
kjenks 04-21-05, 02:54 PM	The rules aren't clear on this. In one part of the DMG description of activating a spell from a scroll, the rules say, "Using a scroll is basically like casting a spell." But most of the time, those same rules talk about "activating" the spell as being somehow different from "casting" the spell, like this: "Determine Effect: A spell successfully activated from a scroll works exactly like a spell prepared and cast the normal way." That clearly differentiates between activating and casting, while saying that the effects of each are the same. But there are many other situations where they are treated differently. For example, sharing spells with an animal companion (druid, ranger) or familiar (sorcerer, wizard) might or might not work with scroll spells. Metamagic Rods might or might not work. Pearl of Power probably wouldn't work (description talks about prepared spells).
