| melkoriii04-07-05, 02:02 PM | So I have just joined the RPGA and have planed out my character to his PrCls. The thing is that I read that PrCls have to be met in a AR before you can take them. Is this correct? Im having a hard time seeing how meting the prereqs for a class that needs (BAB +4, Spellcraft 4 ranks and able to cast 2nd lvl spells) has to be on a AR. Any info is welcome. Thanks |

If you get access to a prestige class on an AR or through a meta-org, that's okay, too (Limited access). But there are some prestige classes you can't take at all (NPC-only or Restricted access). Check out the latest version of the LGCS, version 4.2, for details. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/downloads |

But all those sorts of things are in the LGCS, as Mr. Jenks mentioned... |

When you defeat the foe just with arms, tell your DM that you want to use that combat to qualify for Spellsword. Then, at the end of the module, ask the DM to write it in the play notes section of the AR. |

My wife's char was straight WIZ and gave a Sea Hag a killing blow with her +1 Frost Quarterstaff (certed not bought) and then had it written in the Notes section. IMHO you should really only meet spellsword's qualifications if you have no levels in a fighter-type class (FTR, PAL, BBN, etc.) when you make your kill, because it is more of an accomplishment for a d4 WIZ or SOR to take on a creature without resorting to her main offensive capabilities than it is for a fighter to slay a creature with arms and then x-class to an arcane caster. Especially considering the fact that a WIZ/SOR has an inherently lower AC and HP, standing toe to toe with a Sea Hag while the rest of the party was languishing is a notch in the belt of my wife's character and she is proud of the fact that she was straight WIZ when she slew it. |

Yeah, but in LG that limits people a whole lot due to the mechanics of the campaign...I know a guy who is going for rage mage since CW came out, but he was going for spellsword...One level of Barbarian, the rest Sorcerer...Taking Sorcerer first would have cost him 8 skill points and 4 hit points with no benefit to offset the loss... Role-playing-wise it makes sense, but you can always brag in character if you want the role-playing...Unfortunately for roleplaying, the nature of LG makes it rather hard to pass up statistical benefit because of things like APL and the fact that if your character is underpowered for your level it hurts the whole table... |
| oroborous04-08-05, 09:31 PM | Like I said, its my humble opinion, and obviously there is nothing in the text of spellsword that says you can't have FTR levels when you make your kill. What I would do in a home campaign is totally different from LG, and as a DM/Player for a Greyhawk home campaign I would not allow a spellsword that was a straight fighter when they made their kill. Another opinion of mine is that there is less RP in LG than in a home campaign, so that makes my tertiary character a real challenge. He is a Paladin of Al'Akbar who has a vow of silence, but that is off topic and a story for another day. |

| Dracspero04-10-05, 02:01 AM | I would not allow a spellsword that was a straight fighter when they made their kill. I'll play devil's advocate here and ask "why not?". The idea, as I saw it, is that to be a spellsword you need to be skilled in martial combat, and defeating an enemy with no magic involved is a demonstration of that skill. As written it doesn't even say you must do this solo, but I'd be willing to grant that that is the intention. |
