Disclaimer: Despite what many of you might think, being on the Circle gives me no secret insight into the internal machinations of WotC. This is all based on what I have seen and heard as a player over the past several years, things that any other players could have seen and heard. No, I haven't seen the product yet.

Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk comes out in just about two months, just before or at Gencon, I think. WotC R&D has said (DDXP meeting) that this is a test to see if Greyhawk material will sell. Unfortunately, adventures are known to be the one of the lowest selling products in the D&D line, so there's a hill to climb there. That means we need to buy as much of this as possible to make an impact. Furthermore, the non-RPGA people get very few direct metrics of the impact LG has on sales. If this hardback sells well, the only good explanations will be Greyhawk fans and LG players. That could mean more Greyhawk material and more LG support. Sure, it's not guaranteed, but it is far more likely than average sales on this product.

So, if you want more Greyhawk material and more support for LG, buy this product! If you want to do it now before you forget, pre-order it from someone like Amazon (link below). If you want to help your local game store (always a good idea), go tell them that you will be buying this book and ask them to put your name down. If you can, buy multiple copies as presents for your friends that can't afford to buy it. If you can't buy it, ask a friend or family member to buy it for you as a present or a loan.

Tell your friends to buy it, even if they don't play LG or aren't Greyhawk fans. It's going to be a great book, as the other Expedition books have been very high quality, and this is Greyhawk with great authors:
Erik Mona: like he needs a description for Greyhawk fans?
Jason Bulmahn: Former LG Circle (IUZ, represent!), editor of Dragon (RIP), and really big, so he'll crush you if you don't buy it. Worked on Secrets of Xen'drik and Dungeonscape, both great books.
James Jacobs: editor of Dragon (also RIP) and worked on Red Hand of Doom (I know you all liked this one), Fiendish Codex I (one of the best GM/Author books to come out recently), and Frostburn.

If we buy it, don't read it, and store it away, will we be able to play it when it becomes an ADP mod?

If you order it from Paizo, you can even get an autographed copy: http://paizo.com/store/brand/dungeonsDragons/roleplayingGames/wizardsOfTheCoast/greyhawk

Now, I wonder what the shipping costs would be... :(

Yes. AFAIK, there is no rule against owning something and playing it. The only rule is against playing something about which you have prior knowledge.

This is a great way to support LG, and a good way to get a DM to run this mega-module for you - buy the mod for your DM. Heck, have your whole group chip in to buy it for him!

I will be doing this myself for our planned DM.

Yeah!

In our region, the DMs with the most free time are often the DMs with the least amount of disposable income.

Chipping in for material is becoming more common with my gaming group; we all chipped in $5 to offset WLD costs, and it looks like we'll try to support this one as well.

I'll bite, even though I'm dubious. I heard too much similar talk about Expedition to Castle Ravenloft being a possible jump-start for that campaign setting. I argued that we'd be more likely to see more updated classic adventures (big ol' check there).

But more support for LG would be nice.

so when will Expedition to Greyhawk or whatever be hitting the store shelves. I'll tell my local store to grab a copy.

I think it ships sometime around GC Indy. Your store should probably already have the release date by this point, based on my memory of how ordering works.
