| Moryath10-18-04, 01:17 PM | An odd question but serious one: I have been about to make my second character, and really wanted to create a rogue/fighter who was able to make Invisible Blade. Currently, I'm in the BK. After looking around and around, the only meta-org that fulfills access for this is the Dyvers pit-fighters guild (which I'm not eligible for, being a BK resident). Despite the Circle of Crimson Stone (BK) saying it is affiliated with and connected to the Dyvers org, it only gives access to Master of Chains and Red Avenger, and even those only at the Bruiser level (second level up). In the BKMG (2.2) the only other listing on this class is that to fulfill the combat, we have to get a special or mini mission, "contact the Triad." In speaking with the various GM's in my area about this character concept, I've become more and more disheartened. Their impressions seem to be that getting a response of the Triad, much less actually managing to convince them to sanction a minimission or somesuch, is a "you'll be lucky to so much as get an email back by the time LG year 5 mods are out" proposition. Is there anything I can do about this, or is the character concept just doomed? |

Perhaps you can recruit a party of PCs in your effort to sanction such an adventure in your efforts to gain access to said PrC. I have found that if you "pu together a table," that you will usually improve your chances at getting a GM and Triad response. Try it anyway, no matter what the others say. |
| Sieylianna10-18-04, 04:55 PM | Invisible Blade is a core class: you don't need anything from your triad to take it. I started a PC late last year who is headed that way (not quite 3rd level). The only thing you need is to fight a single combat using just daggers and win, then get your judge to note it on the AR. Ed |
| Moryath10-18-04, 05:55 PM | Ed, According to the BKMG 2.2 (page 94): "Invisible Blade The single unarmed combat must be be met in a special mission or mini-mission. Contact the Triad." My problem is, I'm hearing nothing but horror stories about actually contacting our BK Triad (partially owing to the size and relative activity level of the BK in general) for ANYTHING, much less a single special or mini mission to qualify for a prestige class. At that point, what's a player to do? |
| Jedi_Alec_Swann10-18-04, 07:56 PM | does not the LG campaign guide trump any Triad ruling? if the LGCS says it is core access, it is core access. |
| Moryath10-18-04, 08:03 PM | LGCS 3.0, page 31... "Invisible Blade: This single combat must be setup through your local Triad and documented." Well nevermind then, I'm just S.O.L. I guess. |
| oroborous10-18-04, 10:27 PM | If you really want it bad enough and you live in OK, changing your home region to Dyvers might be worth it. Wichita and Topeka have games every weekend. Granted, you’ll spend 2 TUs for BK mods, but at least you’ll have what you want. I had a similar problem concerning Horizon Walker when the 3.5 conversion happened. So instead of being bummed out about it, I gained 2 more levels of Ranger and took it when the LGCS made it a Core PrC. When the new LGCS Draft comes out, which should be in January, peruse it, and if Invisible Blade isn’t listed as a Core class then gripe to the Co6 to have it included. |
| Sieylianna10-18-04, 10:48 PM | LGCS 3.0, page 31... "Invisible Blade: This single combat must be setup through your local Triad and documented." Well nevermind then, I'm just S.O.L. I guess. The problem is this basically makes the prestige class limited. It's either limited or it's core, pick one. Feel free to bring this up on your local list, your metaregional list and the overall living greyhawk list. I'm planning to. Ed |
| SteveMND10-18-04, 11:42 PM | "The problem is this basically makes the prestige class limited. It's either limited or it's core, pick one." Not really. Core means that you don't need to have to have access to it from an AR, a metagroups, etc.. -- the PC always has open access to it, just like he always has open access to the core classes from the PHB. But like any class, he still needs to meet the requirements first. It just so happens that on this one (and a few others), the requirements are not something that can be so easily adjudicated for a campaign of this size, and so require a little more hoop-jumping. Call it Limited, or Special, or whatever, if it'll make you feel better. The term used doesn't really change how it's gotten. :) |
| Sieylianna10-19-04, 07:18 AM | An update, in my case it works like I expected. The Veluna triad has released a document on how to gain prestige classes with special requirements. For invisible blade, "The single combat must occur during play, must be against an enemy of a CR equal to or greater than the level of the PC wishing to take this class, it must be an actual combat (not a sparring match - there must be risk of death), and it must be signed off on by the DM". So I printed off the Veluna document and I'll put it with that PC, so I can request the DM to sign the AR when the time comes. Have you ever thought about moving to Ohio? Ed |
| Moryath10-19-04, 01:33 PM | I live in Texas and have no plans to be a buckyball...er buckeye. But thanks for asking. Going to Dyvers isn't really realistic for me either at the moment :( Not to mention that creating a Dyvers-home-region PC, when I live in the southern part of TX, is severely gimping my PC who'll be in a whole ton of BK mods with no chance in heck of joining any of their meta-orgs. |
| Aremedis10-20-04, 05:58 PM | well howdy fellow BK member. Probably the best way to get a little mini-mission is to attend one of the Interactives. A small group of us did a mini-mission during the siege at hallorn earlier this year. The next Interactive is Millenium Con in Austin on the 19th of Nov. The entire Triad, along with our new Circle Rep will be in attendance, and they should be able to answer your questions, and concerns. |
| SpaceLord10-21-04, 11:49 PM | Have you actually emailed the Triad? I know of over a dozen special missions the BK Triad has approved this year. Our Triad often responds the same day you send them an email. Maybe you're thinking of the old triad, the currents ones are prompt. |
