I play with a couple of my family members and because of this we decided to split the cost the books.

Now am wondering for a RPGA event do we each need a copy of the book, even if we are at the same table (which I know will not always be possible). Or do we each need a copy of the 3 core rule books?

Thanks in advance.

Photocopies of the relevant pages should work. After all each of you do own the book.

Ok so basically if for a example my niece is playing a sorcerer, a copy of each of her spells and feats and any special thing such as monster stats for a summon?

anyone should have his own PHB :)

any caster who uses spells from it should have a SpC ;) and any caster WANTS to use some of the spells.

most other books are fine if one is SOMEWHERE at a table if needed.

you will only need a DMG at the end of a session - to look up what item X does and costs.

a PHB II is also only needed from time to time - unless you play one of the base classes therein or use one of the complicated feats. feat operation mechanics can be noted on your character sheet anyway.

the Complete books and Race books are also only used for (prestige)-classes and feats, as most spells and items have been reprinted in either the SpC or the MIC.

for summon monster and summon nature's ally i would print the relevant critters from the SRD anyway, one can adjust the critters for augment summoning and animal growth. much more handy than filing through the monster manual.

for my characters i regularly copy the relevant pages for prestige classes and feats (if complicated ones) and otherwise bring a PHB and SpC along.

for my druid i have a stack of pages from the SRD with the most used summons.

Alright then thanks, just downloaded trial of Microsoft's office 2007 for the Excel to use Hero Forage. Also we only have 1 copy of each book since my nephew and niece are currently unemployed and I've got a leg injury so we are low on cash to say the least :D.

Thanks again for the clarifications hopefully I'll be better and beable to invest more into the books that we would like/need.

Night all (4am here :D)
