Hey Everyone,
I recently decided to start playing a Human Sorcerer in Living Greyhawk. However I do not have Access to a copy of the Living Greyhawk Gazetter. I am also not clear on something in the Living Greyhawk Core Rulebook. So I was wondering to things:

Does the bonus racial feat that a Human gets when he/she is first created have to be determined based on the list for his/her particular sub-race? Or can I choose something else?
Further I was wondering if someone could possibly provide me with some basic descriptions of each of the human sub-races? In other words Basic Physical, Historical, and Cultural stuff?

Thanks,
~~Ootek

No, your human bonus feat can be any legal feat...However, there are some feats that are based on your human subrace (and most of those can only be taken at 1st level)...

The new racially based Greyhawk regional feats are acutally a rather new addition to the campaign.

As for the different races, here's a good source online (http://www.living-greyhawk.com/dyvers/Gen/racelist.html), and if I get a chance later, I'll expand some (unless someone else does first :D )...

The basic information on the races is in the living Greyahwk gazetteer. Try adn borrow a copy - the section on race types is pretty short.

What is really more important is what the race types mean in your particular region. For example, in Onnwal, the entire country is at war with some Suel invaders, which makes 'Suel' a fairly tricky race to play in Onnwal.

Your region depends on where in the world you live.

It's also worth noting that the adventures can be split into regional adventures, written by people in your geographic area, and Core adventures, written by people all over the world. It's in regional adventures that it's likely to make the most difference, since they are set in or around the country you come from. In Core adventures, you're generally going to be a foreigner no matter what you do.

I don't have my LGG in front of me, but I can provide a brief blurb for a few of the sub-races that I have played (mind you all were not LG characters).

Suel are an imperialistic race. Hard liners are militaristic and bigoted, meaning they believe that the Suel are the master race. Many years ago the Suel and Baklunish warred and devastated parts of the world with fell magic. They hate weakness and respond to shows of force. Some show their outright disdain for other cultures, while some are tolerant or even accepting. The Scarlet Brotherhood believes in the extreme purity of the Suel and works to eradicate all others.

Baklunish are akin to medieval Arabs. Many tribes are nomadic, and their merchants can be found in every major city. They have erected great cities in the desert with beautiful gardens and flowing architecture. Pious Bakluni worship Al-Akbar (Allah) which has 2 sects, The True Faith and The Exalted Faith (like Sunni and Shiia). Some merchants are shady, and use the letter of the law to hoodwink customers. Some PCs and NPCs are played to comic effect using the stereotypical toady charlatan getting someone to sign a contract with fine print or selling wares that last just until the warranty ends.

Rhenee came to Oerth from another planet or plane. They are a seafaring culture and live mostly on the Nyr Dyv, but can be found in any navy. They prefer being on their flat-bottomed barges more than being on land. Their society is matriarchal and each clan has a wise woman that can divine by reading water, be it in a bowl or a natural setting. Rhenee have gained a reputation for piracy and thievery among the other races and may be shunned or prevented from entering certain areas.

Also...

The Oriedians are a martial society. Kinda akin to the Romans AFAIK, with dark hair and olive complexion. For years they ruled a unified Great Kingdom until its downfall in the 580's. They are mostly found in Furyondy, the former Great Kingdom, parts of Keoland and Nyrond.

Thanks everyone, I think that since my Home Regions government is pretty much intollerant of all things not loyal to Iuz (Bandit Kingdoms), I should be pretty fine playing any of the Human Sub-Races. So I think that I am going to play a Baklunish Character. I have never played an Arabian knight type Human Race character before!

Though I don't think I am going to worship the Bandit Kingdoms version of Allah, especially since my Character is going to eventually become a Dragon Disciple ^.^
