In LG Deities guide, it shows that Zuoken has a preferred weapon of "Unarmed Strike".

Cleric rules say that when you take a God with the war domain, you gain Weapon Focus in the deity's favored weapon, and also gain "Free Martial Weapon Proficiency with deity's favored weapon (if necessary)".

When looking at the "Weapon of the Deity" section for Zuoken, it lists "+1 Improved Unarmed Strike, Defending".

The only way that I can find in the rules to be considered "Armed" for the purpose of an unarmed attack is to have "Improved Unarmed Strike" feat. It would make sense that you can't take Weapon Focus until you have a weapon.

If I take Zuoken as a Deity, with War domain as a Cleric, do I get the feat "Improved Unarmed Strike" because that's what it takes to get Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike), rather than the Martial Weapon Proficiency (Unarmed Strike)...which doesn' t really have meaning in 3.5?

Any help is appreciated.

Acually the "Weapon of the Deity" refers to the weapon the deity uses. It's under the Weapon heading that you find the weapon you get the focus for. In this case that would be "Fist of Zuoken (unarmed strike), monk weapons."

And since you would only get martial weapon profiency, you still have to take exotic weapon prof./improved unarmed strike.

Quite unfortunate but that's how the rules go:(

If you need other Baklunish gods with war domain, you could try Azor'alq or Xan Yae, though you won't get Strength domain, which seems to be quite popular because of Enlarge person:D
