Does anyone know of a Core or Regional mod where Rainbow Servant access is given? Some sources say Tropical Intrigue gives access although my AR does not say so.

If anyone knows, they couldn't very well post it here. If you desperately need access, ask your triad for a special mission.

Let me phrase my request in a different way then. I was told by some that Cor4-02 Tropical Intrigue may have granted access. I played the mod but it does not say it grants access to the Rainbow Servant. Others told me that there have been several versions of the AR for that mod. If anyone has played Tropical Intrigue (not available for play anymore) and their AR mentions the Rainbow Servant, I would like to know so I can get an updated copy.

I asked several triad people about this and they indicated that it did not provide access to the prestige class. Not an official answer, but I've never heard anything about a variant AR or to support its providing access to rainbow servant.

If I remember the module aright, the PCs never actually meet a couatl in Tropical Intrigue , although they can find an item made from the feathers of one. This makes it unlikely that the Pre-Requisite for Rainbow Servant could thereby be regarded as having been fulfilled.

The author frequents these boards, hopefully he will jump in to say...

From everything I can recall, the answer is no, you don't run into one, and there isn't one in the mod at any apl, as far as I can remember...

Hi

As a Warmage my character has more than a little interest in this. I've played Tropical Intrigue, & there wasn't any access listed in that mod, though it's possible there may be in later mods in that series.

Thankfully the earliest a Warmage can make 10th lvl Rainbow Servant, (and access all cleric spells, plus domains etc), is 16th, so will have to retire from 'normal' play.

Lastly - anyone aware of an errata for rainbow servant? In text it says that spell access etc increases at every level, not just the 6 on the table. (Text over Table debate). Argument moot in LG, but what are players views for other games?

(I accept granting no loss of spellcating levels in the PrC, but wouldn't allow PC's to access a Couatl [prereq] until at least 10th lvl, so would be 20th lvl before gaining access to all clerical spells).

Cheers

PS If anyone's confused - Warmages can spontaneously cast any spell they have access to - so granting full clerical access means they can cast any spell from warmage/clerical list as a Warmage/Rainbow Servant.

Frankly, despite WotC's usual errata (which states that, in most cases, the text is always right when contradicted by the table), I'm inclined to think the table is correct in this case. I mean, trading 4 spellcasting levels for the clerical access granted by this PrC sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Not to mention that the sample NPC provided seems to use the table to determine its caster level. So, going strictly by the "example", one should use the table over the text.

Hi

Tend to agree with you.

Suggested access to Coatls at levels 10+ in 'private' games so that you're practically Epic Lvl anyway before you get access to Cleric spells.
(So not really 'game-busting').

Does anyone know of any regions that offer special missions for Rainbow Servant. I already live on the border of two regions and travel to a third quite often; Yeo, BK and Dyvers. I know that Yeomanry does not offer a special mission for Rainbow Servant despite being one of the kingdoms closest to jungles, but I'm hoping another region that is nearby may offer it. I find it odd that a region like ToP which is far away from jungles can offer a possible mission for Rainbow Servant when a region like Yeomanry does not.

Each and every triad is free to decide whether or not to provide access to limited prestige classes, or prestige classes with special requirements. It has to with regional feel. The areas in Greyhawk where this prestige class would fit are all core. I know of no Splintered Sun metaregion or regional scenario that provides access, though whether or not the local triads would want to write a special mission is something entirely different.

As for the table and text body - in this case I would go for the table. Sounds like a copy-and-paste error to me.

You know.. I wonder if it would be so bad to announce up front which module provides access to which hard-to-get PrC (I am not talking about feats, items or spells here).

It's not as if that was going to ruin the drama since a module rarely (if ever) resolves around the special condition needed to join (the latter being most of the time a "by-product", so to speak, of something happening during the mod.)

Plus, more people would try to play it.. which is always good from the RPGA's point of view, right?

So, what would be the negative point(s)?

I see but one and that is people arguing that members play certain modules only to "go shopping for PrC".

For certain PrC's, it should be intuitive where they should be offered. If you're not going to the jungle, you're probably not getting Rainbow Servant. Mods that aren't elf-heavy are unlikely to offer Seeker of the Misty Isle or Ruathar. Stuff like that.

the problem is: out off all those pesty little errors and omissions that WOTC is so beloved for, you never can be sure where there is a real error and where the thing was intentional.

especcially, as there is an errata for complete divine that does NOT correct the text part and takes side for the table, i would go with the text version.

(on the other hand, i would not be surprised when a next errata gives preferance for the table, so don't fall into fits when this happens.)

Rainbow servant is a textbook case of a class that is just bad to take in LG, because it is subject to interpretation.

It is one thing to have a feat or spell transform from table to table as it gets different rulings. You can become familiar with the variations and if you're comfortable with all of them, it doesn't affect your enjoyment of the game.

It's another thing entirely to have your core class features subject to table variation (in particular, BAB, saves and spell advancement - if there is any doubt at all about any of these, I'd never EVER take the class in LG).

Regarding text versus table for the Rainbow Servant, I received two conflicting replies from WotC customer service. One said text and the other said table. I also received two different answers regarding a warmage and the Rainbow Servant. In one case, they added all the domain spells to their list and in the other reply the domain spells were handled the same way as a wizard would handle it (i.e. one domain spell per level per day). I would like to believe that the warmage adds all domain spells to his spell list, can cast the freely like a sorcerer, and that he receives a caster level every RS level. That, however would be too good to be true and therefore must not be correct. More than likely the table is correct and a warmage can only cast domain spells like a wizard. WotC would really help matters by updating their errata to include a ruling for warmages becoming Rainbow Servants. For the time being, I will not have my Warmage take this prestige class because of the controversy and misinformation surrounding it.
