| Ferol, Debtor of Torm08-26-07, 01:28 AM | Does anyone know how reliable the info from this site is? http://www.tassek.anang.com/blurbs.html#adp603 Specifically the part that says, "It's recommended that experience and treasure be awarded as it is earnt during the scenario (which is an exception to the standard rules for Living Greyhawk). This is necessary for Red Hand of Doom as the scenario is balanced with the expectation that rewards are given when earned rather than at the end of each Part." I ask because after completing part 1 of the adaptable I am only 100xp away from leveling and the thought of going through part 2 as a level 4 character terrifies me. Has anyone else heard anything confirming this? Thanks, Feral |
| Howie2308-26-07, 02:13 AM | Has anyone else heard anything confirming this? It is essentially, if not exactly, the text from the adaptation document. David |
| Ferol, Debtor of Torm08-26-07, 02:35 AM | The adaptation document is the stuff written to make the mod LG legal? My judge is claiming that this is not true and that RHoD works like every other mod in terms of when xp is awarded. As I am not judging I can't look at the adaptation document myself. Does anyone who does have access to it know what page number this ruling is on so that I can bring this up next time I talk to him. |

If you die you will really be hurting once raised because you could end up taking 1/2 exps and gold the rest of the way. |

Yes, the adaptation document is the stuff written to make the generic mod an LG mod. The text is on page 2, first full paragraph on the right column. Note that it is not a right, but is an option (a highly recommended one that just about everyone is using in some form). David |

Yeah but after hitting level 4 I only had 36 TUs left and I really wanted to play this mod before next year. The mod is rough. Everything I've heard from people is 100% correct but I have a very strong sense of self-preservation that got me through the first part in one piece. |
| retro08-26-07, 09:13 PM | Yeah but after hitting level 4 I only had 36 TUs left and I really wanted to play this mod before next year.Ferol, since Red Hand of Doom is a Year 6 mod, it's not available for LG play next year. And hiding at the back is an excellent strategy for 4th level chars in RH- in the table I'm running now, one of the Pcs started the mod as a 4th lvl centaur, and most of the combats go like this: centaur charges, usually doing fairly big damage, dropping one monster. Other bad guys beat the centaur down. Other PCs rush in to save centaur before he bleeds out. Eventually, he'll either die or improve his AC enough to take a few hits. :) |
| TWG_Prometheus08-27-07, 12:03 PM | We started Red Hand of Doom with a pair of level 4 Wizards. Fortunately, the fact that they were Wizards allowed them to contribute while avoiding the worst of the punishment. They did fine, although they had to drop out before the last chapter for out-of-game reasons. If you're a level 4-5 frontliner in chapter II, good luck! (It's not impossible, but a little bit of love from your DM's dice certainly wouldn't hurt.) Seriously consider dropping out in lieu of another player in your area if you die. It'd be a favor to you and your group if you fall any more behind than you are. If there isn't a player in your area that can take over for you, that might not be an option and you'll just have to deal. |
| MadVlad08-27-07, 12:24 PM | We had a 4th level Bard that had taken a level of fighter for an extra feat. The feats she took were Archery based, and she made a significant impact orating while shooting the hell out of everything. |

That's enough just barrow 15 TUs from next year and your good to go*. Once you commit that's the only mod that charactor play for the rest of the year**. After RHOD is done you should have 37 TUs for the rest of 08. So you should hurry if you want to play. I started RHOD at 9th lvl with 2 levels of Spellsword under my belt and still nearly died in part 3. Of course my AC is low due the fact I have 7 levels of wizard but that was my choice. When we started we had one player at fifth and every one else was 6 or higher. After part three I became tenth and am looking foreward to 4and 5 so I can unload some serious fire power. * This is no longer matters. ** When you finish RHOD you are free to play other mods |

The adaptation documentation recommends you grant XP after each encounter instead of at the end of each part because the adventure was written with that expectation. You can explain to your DM its not a LG adventure and this balances out the increased challenge. Ultimately, its your judge's call. |

I seem to recall that if you gain a level during a mod you still take the gold/xp hit for the full mod but I am not sure about that. |

You get XP, and qualify to play a given part, based upon the level you are when you start the part. If you start 3 levels down, you get half for the full mod, despite levelling. If you start 3 levels up, you don't get booted from the mod if you level. I think that's the same as what you're saying, yes? David |
| Ramacass08-29-07, 07:59 AM | Is RHOD a good mod for a character with strong social skills. I have a character with high sense motive, gather info, diplomacy, and intimidate. He just finished Barrow of the forgotten king and was GREATLY disapointed by the lack of any social skills required for success. It was just one combat after another without any other challenge and with hardly even an NPC to talk to. If RHOD is similar I'll give it a pass or play a different character |

In fact I wouldn't recommend anyone play it without a blaster mage. Derek |

That's right with the exception for mods that consist of multiple adventures like like RHOD. Then once you finish lets say part 2. You can then play part 3 with your new level and get full XP and full GP. I would advise not playing up on that mod wait until you have at least a level 7 and then play down. I know it says APL 6 on that second part but if my 9th hadn't been there with an Evards Black Tentacles. It pretty much removed all the fodder and that left us with the dragon. We struck fast and hard and it never left the ground. |

With the new TU rules, you probably want to play a few modules in between, and get higher level. GH |
