| delewobmesid04-03-06, 11:31 AM | ...I have a Warmage 6/Bard 1 with access to the Dakon Cohort; I'm looking for the thread where folks discussed what the turned up doing with their's; I'm considering ignoring the wizard aspect altogether and go for radiant servant of pelor with healing and good. I need an AC/HP tank that won't die easily when playing up. What do you think I should consider for feats/classes? |
| paigeoliver04-03-06, 12:05 PM | I started that thread. I ultimately decided to hold off on taking the cohort until 9th or probably 12th level. He has the best stats ever but that 1 wizard level kills any low-level non-wizard build. |

| paigeoliver04-03-06, 02:46 PM | .. except for Mystic Theurge... Yes, but he won't be one of THOSE if you take him at 6th or 7th level. He will be a squishy cohort playing up who only has 1st level spells. If you take him when you are 9th level then he can actually be a Mystic Theurge. |

| opa04-03-06, 03:31 PM | I went over every topic and went through like 12 possible builds.. Actually decided to not take the Dakon til I made and junked a dozen regular cohort builds... just couldnt make the 22 point build survivable in my eyes.. I supose if you don't take leadership til 9th or later there may be different playable builds ... but mine is starting at 4th level and one of those is a wizard level.. I decided monk was a good powergame and roleplaying choice for him.. he was in the scarlet brotherhood training pits.. and it helps use his relatively high wisdom for something and helps out his unarmed damage and close defense., plus save boosting. AC 21 (Dex+3, Wis+2, natural+2, Mage Armor +4), 27 on total defense (5 ranks tumble) decided to go Enlightened Fist, so took the next two levels Wizard(practiced caster-3rd), so he has 2nd level spells..Alter self to bring him to 25 AC, 31 on total defense, and access to invisibility if he has to stay outa tough situation He needs 1 more level of something before he can go enlightened fist and counting the two caster levels he loses in Enlightened fist and the one for monk he has one more he can lose one more covered by Practiced Caster.. I decided on Ranger for his next level.. it gives him track which synergies with his scent ability and the skill poits into climb get him to auto climb..dakons can always take 10, and have +8 racial bonus, +3 from dex, up to +7 from skills, +2 climbers kit..gets him to a 30..so he can move his climb speed on normal dungeon walls.....also gets him a favored human enemy, and the ability to use wands on himself after that it will be enlightened fist, advancing his wizard class, (you lose the free feats anyway), while giving him better hp, and defense I am sure his gold can be better spent optimization wise but, I spent the 330 (10% of his gold) boosting his spell choices... got him a cloak of resistance +1, climbers kit and some junk, and after he plays once he'll pick up his hat of disguise... It'll help in social situations, he can easily look like a half orc tank, or an ape, or whatever, and will help in conjunction with his alter self(troglydyte) too. He won't have many spells , almost none actually, he'll mage armor up, familiar pocket.. proabably monk through the first combat(back up fighter), using alter self for the second one, then he'll have a grease and invisibilty left he'll go invisible for the third combat til there's a chance he can contribute, he can do alot, drag downed comrades away, block charge lanes, tap with a wand once he gets his ranger level, not a pc, but useful.. he'll have 3rd level spells at 8th level with with full caster level, and autoclimb, decent unarmed abilities... and it just gets better from there..advancing his caster level and monk abilities simultaneously, he'll be able to fight invisibly by 10th level, and he'll have a few spell slots he won't have to use just to survive making him a little more flexible Thats what I came up with.. rage mage was a good suggestion as well but had alignment conflicts.. | delewobmesid04-05-06, 03:17 PM | Thanks for the feedback; I think I'm going to go with a Monk 2/Wizard 3; I think evasion and combat reflexes are more important than track/favor enemy. The plan is mage armor every morning and cast shield at the start of each combat (off of scrolls probably). +2 Wis, +2 Natural, +3 Dex, +4 Mage Armor, +1 Ring of Prot, +1 Amulet of Natural Armor = AC 23 + 4 Shield + 3 Fighting Defensively; HP 30 (not great, but not terrible); is there any feat requirements for enlightened fist? I want to say combat casting for some reason... I don't have my books with me. Practiced Spellcaster at 3rd in any case; If this guy can specialize in a school, I'll go with transmutation barring evocation and necromancy (as he'll be paired with a warmage). Monk seems to be the best build for this guy as he has the stats to pull it off. light fighter with a long spear (and kicking guys who get closer than that). Might take a level of Ranger at 6th for track & favored enemy as both as really good. Thanks again for the feedback. |
| opa04-05-06, 03:30 PM | Concentration 8, Knowledge (arcana) 5, Spellcraft 5, Combat Casting, Improved Unarmed Strike, Stunning Fist, arcane caster level 3 |
| Mortepierre04-05-06, 06:00 PM | If this guy can specialize in a school, I'll go with transmutation barring evocation and necromancy (as he'll be paired with a warmage). Bad choice. Drop Enchantment rather than Necromancy as the latter gives you Ray of Enfeeblement and False Life (not to mention Enervation) and those can really make a difference in a fight. |
| Jay_Ibero_91104-07-06, 09:50 PM | A freind of mine took the dakon cohort before conversion, then used the conversion to eliminate the wizard level and make him a cleric/master of radiance(he got access to the class). |
