| dedonas03-31-04, 04:45 PM | I'm new to Living Greyhawk and am eagerly awaiting the chance to participate. This may have been covered before, but can anybody tell me if the regional feats from Dragon magazine (I forget the issue number) are valid in LG? Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shed on this question. |

This can be an AR or a metaorg from your region. Ed |
| Greyson04-01-04, 01:14 PM | The article that dedonas is refering to is in Dragon #315, by Erik Mona. There are some clear stipulations regarding Feats in the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook (http://living-greyhawk.com/Downloads/Living%20Greyhawk%20Campaign%20Sourceboo k%202.0.pdf) (LGCS), which you definitely want to download and read. As of now, we are still using LGCS v.2.0. On page nine, it indicates that 1st-level characters may only take Feats from the v.3.5 Players Handbook (PHB). After first level, PCs may take Feats from the Builder Books, with specific documentation - usually ARs or Meta-org benefits. But, LGCS v.2.0 is silent on taking Feats from Dungeon, Dragon or the Living Greyhawk Journal (LGJ). But, I would allow feats from anywhere, within reason, as long as they are supported by regional campaign documentation. Luckily, the LGCS v.3.0 is forthcoming, and it addresses Meta-game Policy and the use of campaign elements from the LGJ and other sources. In LGCS v.3.0, PCs will be restricted from taking extra-PHB Feats until 3rd-level. But, v.3.0 is only academic now, as it is only in draft phase. We shall see the final pub soon, I hope. |
| Steve_MND04-01-04, 03:56 PM | The question of the Dragon magazine article came up recently on the main list, and basically, the answer is: no, you cannot take any of the feats from the article, nor may campaign docs offer them. At the moment. Basically, it was explained that due to various legal restrictions, corporate policy requirements, etc., the campaign cannot take material from the various magazine unless it is either in the LGJ section, or unless it is explicitly written for LG. There are a very few specific exceptions, but merely having something 'set' in the Greyhawk campaign setting is not enough. That said, it was mentioned that it might be possible for such materials (with corporate permission and the permission of the author) to eventually make it's way as a reprint into the LGCS or the LGJ, in which cases they would be considered a legitimate source for the campaign to utilize. However, they also said that it would take lots of red tape to get around, and wouldn't be something we'd be likely to see any time soon. So, they're great for a home campaign, but I wouldn't hold your breath for LG at this time... |
| qstor04-07-04, 11:09 AM | Erik Mona said they could be included in a LGJ compliation which would come out in 2005. Mike |
| Steve_MND04-07-04, 12:28 PM | Well, I'm not holding my breath. Erik does a lot for LG and GH, bless'm, but there have been plans for all sorts of things like this LG-related that have never panned out, for various reasons. I'll believe it when I actually hold a copy of the publication in my hands, but not before. :D |
| dedonas04-08-04, 02:44 PM | Thank you much for the information. Hopefully with the new LGCS coming out, these feats will be allowed. I certainly hope they do, as they help to add flavor to the Greyhawk setting. (It's about time they started closing the gap with FR). |
| MichaelTLH04-08-04, 10:08 PM | FYI There's more feats in the May 2004 Dragon, #319. :D |
