| exploding_brain03-07-05, 02:03 PM | Sorry if this has been asked and answered. The search function is on the fritz at the moment. I'm planning on creating a bard who will later multi-class into Paladin. This obviously requires an alignment shift. Are there any rules in Living Greyhawk that would prevent my character from switching alignment from Neutral Good to Lawful Good upon reaching, say, 4th level? I looked in the LGCS, and couldn't find anything relevant. Thanks. |

There's technically no rule against it, but Barbarian/Monks/Paladin/Druids are considered cheesy by everyone who isn't a member of the lollipop guild... Notify your triad (they may or may not care) and roleplay the change and most folks will be cool with it... |

Notify your triad (they may or may not care) and roleplay the change and most folks will be cool with it... Except it's a premeditated change. It's one thing to have a PC evolve through the course of play. It's munchkinism to define a career path that requires alignment to change. (Edit - It's not a slight change either, you're going from Chaotic to Lawful. Expect to be hassled about it, because everyone is going to comment on the change when you use bardic music to inspire courage as a paladin. It's not one of the alignment changes which isn't noticeable without looking at the character sheet). Ed |
| exploding_brain03-07-05, 04:50 PM | Well, it's not premeditated for a particular level. It's just something I expect to happen to the character. Kind of like playing a CN rogue who eventually learns the value of generosity, and shifts to CG, or a LN cleric who eventually learns the value of compassion and shifts to LG. This shift just happens to also have a game mechanic component. Besides, haven't you noticed that almost all bards shift to paladin as they get older? I mean, just look at all those old actors and rock stars who get Knighted. Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Laurence Olivier, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Mick Jagger. The Queen whacks them on the shoulders with a sword, and suddenly they can detect evil, lay on hands, get a mount, etc, etc, etc. ;) |

I don't think so...It's one change in a lifetime, and it's not chaotic to lawful, it's neutral to lawful...One step, one time...I don't see how premeditation makes it power gaming in some way but if he just thought of it 4 levels from now it would be okay... |
