| Ramacass06-13-07, 07:35 AM | So what's the community's general view on when one can and can't retrieve a fallen companion and get them raised. Obviously, if you get disintegrated you're screwed but what if, for example, one or more party members are killed by bandits and the rest of th party runs off. As a general rule would you let them come back and retrieve their friends' bodies after the bandits have looted them or not. Just looking for various opinions and instances when this sort of thing has come up. Thanks |

| Madfox1106-13-07, 08:27 AM | What's wrong with the old, "chop a finger off of the corpse before running" gag? If you have the time to chop a finger off, you almost always have the time to grab the corpse unless you happen to have a relative low Strength score. Besides, to raise somebody with only a finger you need a ressurection spell which is much more expensive than a raise dead. To be honest, I never ran across this situation. The only time it came really close the death was caused by a hungry animal who had killed the ranger and was running off with the corpse. If the PCs had been unable to stop it, the character would have been permanently dead or at the very least require a ressurection depending on how soon they would be able to find the animals lair. I probably would err on the lenient side, but I would let it depend on the opponents and how quick the PCs are able to return. It are the opponent motives that make me decide on what happens with any corpses that remain behind. The speed of the PCs determine if the opponents did what they wanted to do. |

A monster was making off with the corpse and was probably going to get out of range in the next round. The archer had a choice of hitting the monster, but probably not killing it, or making sure we at least had a body part to resurrect the fallen party member with. Ironically, we didn't need it, as the adventure led us to the monster's lair later anyhow. But it made for some humor as we kept asking the recently dead guy if his finger was re-attached correctly. :) -karma |

But I'd say that if you can go back you yourself to recover the body thats always better. IP's in this particular church org are the only way's to get raised from the dead also. |

IP's in this particular church org are the only way's to get raised from the dead also. It's been my observation that Triads should not grant permission for any body retrieving (I certainly wont grant it) once the module has been finished as LGCS says all deaths should be handled at the table. Likewise if someone get a special mission for it, it ultimately creates an unequal system where someone gets that mission while others are left out. (And no, I don't care if someone would suggest "a generic body retrieving" mission "template" to me) Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |
| Madfox1106-15-07, 04:09 AM | Body retrieval is permissable... ressurection is not. Which I admit is a bit odd. Still, I got the impression the original poster wanted to know whether or not it would be allowed by the DM on the table (perhaps even derailing the adventure) in which case ressurection is allowed. |
| Lupo197706-15-07, 07:59 AM | As DM i always would create an opportunity for the party to retrieve the corpse for the porpose of "raise dead", or at least ressurrection. (ok, if the adventure states specifically that the corpse is lost, i would of course stick to the adventure.) but in normal adventures i would give them the opportunity thing is : a player builds up a character for months and years, fills it with live , does good roleplay, has fun with it - and then one unlucky roll, one hasty decision, bad luck, and the char is gone forever ! we roleplay for fun, to meet freinds, to experience exiting adventures together, all this stuff. but prime goal is FUN. and i believe to destroy a charakter permanently without a special reason, just because the dice said so does not bring fun to my players. |
