Does anyone know what is happening with the rewards program now that LG and 3.5 are going away?

The rewards program is an rpga initiative and not tied directly to LG and/or D&D. I see no reason why it will change because of the addition of a new campaign or game edition.

That's just my opinion of course.

We'll probably only see one more set of LG Campaign Cards, at most. I'm willing to bet that we'll see Living Forgotten Realms cards BEFORE LFR "goes live".

Probably a few creation cards, and then a couple of SUPER AWESOME creation cards only available if you attend Gen Con.

You mean they'll be making the LFR Kobold card a convention only card? :D

But seriously, why would you hand out creation cards at a con? You would have to create the character AFTER you got the card, so it would waste time.

I'm pretty sure that they'll put out some kind of LFR compatible Campaign Cards to promote 4E/LFR. It's what I would do.

To improve attendance, of course! Especially if they advertise what the cards will be before the con begins, so you design your character before hitting Gen Con. Since Gen Con is where the new campaign premiers, it makes a certain amount of sense.

And it hacks off those of us who aren't planning on going to Gen Con.

And the Legend of the Green Regent orc card when that campaign kicked off? This isn't exactly news.

Yeah, it's what we call 'promoting a convention'. It's not that your average player is being denied anything, they aren't. It's that those who spend the time (money really) to go go GenCon get some swag. I really don't see the problem here.

Yep, local convention travel has always had some perks (one time access interactives), and the big cons have always had some really unusual access - the undermountain stuff this year, or the shadow magic stuff another year.

That made no difference to me. I've never played an Eberron game at all.

It's one of those "Do I eat or do I attend Gen Con or do I try to buy one of those cards on E-bay?" moments.

Yes, I understand that it makes sense from a business perspective. Yes, I understand that we have to support our conventions. (I have been to a local convention, and it was loads of fun.) But that doesn't mean that I'm not still annoyed that I'm probably not going to be able to afford to go to Gen Con.

And yes, I also understand that for a special benefit like exclusive campaign cards to be special, they have to remain exclusive. (Barring reprints, but those are rare.)

I don't understand why they think it makes sense for their business to promote the existing big Conventions to the player base.

I understand why they want to pay money to have a big presence at conventions but there are already more players for these things than they can cater to.

Because players expect swag from a Con? Because then the con organizers and promoters can say "it got bigger, it's not a waste of money" to the higher ups who would cancel the con presense entirely? Because they're a business and too many people to cater to is far better than too few? Because cool swag generates talk about a game, and talk leads to more business either from new players or continued business from current players?

I never said that I thought it was a bad thing that they might promote the con via exclusive campaign cards. I just said that it hacks me (and probably other people) who can't attend cons.
