| RedKnightofKet07-24-07, 07:38 AM | So, according to the Greyhawk Ruins Sourcebook, each Greyhawk Ruins adventure is four rounds, each as a separate quarter of the city. It says that once you have gone to a particular quarter, you can't go back. How does this impact those who are playing this adventure at GenCon? Will all four rounds be available? Are players expected to sign up twice in order to play all of the parts? Does one lose access to the other parts that they do not play at GenCon? What is the time limit on playing those remaining parts that they did not get in a GenCon? |

What is the time limit on playing those remaining parts that they did not get in a GenCon? CGR7-01 Ruins of Discovery: Gen Con Indy and Gen Con UK premier; APL 2 (1st-level characters only). There are two versions of this adventure. CGR7-01 only includes parts 1 and 2 and is only available at Gen Con Indy and Gen Con UK. CGR7-02 includes all four parts of the adventure and will be available for play beginning in September. If you play adventures 1 and 2 at Gen Con, you can still play parts 3 and 4 of CGR7-02 (but not parts 1 and 2). http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lggr/20070724a |
| chesspiece07-25-07, 07:54 PM | It sounds like they're releasing CGR in packages of 4 rounds (or 2 for GenCon). Does this mean that if I GM 1 of the rounds I become ineligible to play the others in that package? |
| control freak07-25-07, 08:47 PM | so, does it mean that you cant play parts 1 and 2 if you dont go to gen con? |

| Redfist07-26-07, 04:25 PM | I think it's just for them to avoid confusion in the ordering system. Alternatively, they could have made parts 1+2 called 7-01 and 3+4 called 7-02, but that would confuse users over future 4 part CGR mods potentially. It would've been nice if GenCon could have had it with all 4 parts. *shrug* |
| Fleetfang07-27-07, 04:35 PM | I don't know... I'm suddenly very nervous about playing Ruins at Greyhawk. I mean, I'm lucky as hell that a friend of mine was able to nab me an extra ticket to play in the first slot of the Con, but I got burned hard last year with Xendrik's launch (judges not knowing what to do with campaign Journals, none of my adventures getting reported...). I really, really don't want my experience with the Ruins arc shot to hell because the kinks hadn't been ironed out of the system before GenCon. Anxiety is added, since I'm playing on Thursday of the con, the first time it's running. Britt, or someone with inside certainty, can I get a rock solid confirmation that I'm NOT going to get screwed by playing Sections 1 & 2 at GenCon? Can I play other mods between the various sections of part 1? For example, I play section 1 & 2 in CGR7-01 at GenCon... then I play other COR premieres at GenCon with the same PC. Can he finish sections 3 & 4 later? |
| Fleetfang07-27-07, 04:42 PM | I just thought of another potential problem... Look at this scenario: Player A gets to play Ruins at GenCon. He hits section 1 and 2 of the first four-part adventure. Then he heads home, ready to continue the fight. But his friends haven't played parts 1 & 2. He can't judge his buddies in Parts 1 & 2, since he'd have to order all four parts (thus disqualifying him from playing 3 & 4). But when his friends DO set up a chance to play all four parts, they either play with a 5-man party through sections 1 & 2 without him, or he gets booted entirely in favor of someone who can play in all four sections without disrupting the party/table composition. It'd be the same situation as some folks who had to move while half-way through RHoD. I imagine that finding a group to join up with who have room for you to join up with them in the middle of things will be difficult to engineer. Wearing my alarmist hat, Ff |

One thing that I'm very impressed with about this series is that "in one, two, three, or even four sessions (and in any order) each adventure zone has its own AR and is treated in most ways as a normal adventure in its own right." The "in any order" rule was a very helpful move by the Circle. :tiphat: So the GenCon-er could join his friends in Parts 3 & 4. Then he can offer to run Parts 1 & 2. Another side-benefit is that the GenCon PC might be level 2-3 and better able to aid the level 1 PCs. I put out a question in another thread asking whether GMing a Part disqualifies one from playing the other Parts. I'm hoping they're able to truly treat each part as a separate adventure. |

Kithran Ahhha! that's an excellent point and well worth the extra complexity, thanks. Do you happen to know if one can choose to treat them as entirely seperate adventures. I'm definitely getting the impression that you can but the single module code implies that they are all one for GMing purposes at least. |
| Kithran07-30-07, 01:05 PM | All I know is the Gen Con version is a single file with effectively two sections - one for each part. As such I'd expect the 4 part version to be similar. There is nothing in the Gen Con version that would make me think you would be unable to play the other two parts having run it (all it has are references to 'this gets you to zone 3 and the like) - ie after running at Gen Con I'd believe you would still be eligable to play parts 3 and 4 when they are released.
