| larytw05-03-07, 02:19 PM | For CGR7-01 Ruins of Discovery do we have to start a brand new character for the mod or can we bring an existing first level character (i.e. one with less then a 1,000 xp)? It would be nice to know before signing up for events on Monday. |
| pedr05-03-07, 02:41 PM | The first AR of any character playing any module in the Ruins of Greyhawk arc must be from a Ruins of Greyhawk module. So you need a brand new character. Although the announcement was that 1st level (<1,000 xp) characters could play (see here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lgcn/20061205a) subsequent information changed that (see here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lgad/20070227a) Those two pages are the sum total of information released so far, as far as I know. |

| Mithreinmaethor05-03-07, 04:00 PM | How about we get the Greyhawk Ruins Sourcebook out for the masses to peruse ? That would alleviate a ton of these questions that are about to hit this board. I think originally the 1st mod was to be out this month ? But was subsequently moved to Gen-con Indy. I would like to see what they have to offer up so that I may decide whether I want to play a character in the ARC or if I will eat it so the others in my area can play it. Also I noticed that it is no longer touted as being equal to 4 slots worth of play. Its down to a 2 rounder. So will it be like a 2 round core special when it comes to exps and gold etc ? Or will it be just like a 2 round intro mod ? |

So will it be like a 2 round core special when it comes to exps and gold etc ? Or will it be just like a 2 round intro mod ?From the chat with Chris Tulach on Tuesday:JohnduBois>The material on Greyhawk Ruins suggests that the adventures will be more challenging than normal adventures. Will the rewards correspond (e.g. will the first adventure in the series grant enough experience that it would reduce the character's ability to play in as many intro mods following)? ga WotC_Tulach> John, your group will determine its level of involvement in Greyhawk Ruins. So, if you want gain more XP and gold, you'll play a much larger portion of it than a player that's interested in just the story. Also, the core intros won't be like the regional ones. They will start to scale up a bit to keep up with character advancement. However, if you "power level" your character, you might find yourself unable to play the intros. So I imagine that it will be possible to complete the adventure in two five-hour rounds, but could spread it over a longer time-span if you were playing it at home. Though, as you say, all will be revealed with time! |

(see here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lgad/20070227a) Q: When will the Greyhawk Ruins Sourcebook be available? The current plan is to make the Greyhawk Ruins Sourcebook available in early June 2007. If time allows, there will be a short period of player review. |

"Q: Do I have to play the same character in all the Greyhawk Ruins adventures or can I use different ones? You can use different characters in different Greyhawk Ruins adventures if you want. However, they must all be 1st-level when they first enter the ruins." |

What changed was that a 1st level character who already had ARs could play...This is no longer the case. You can play multiple characters, but for each one, the Greyhawk Ruins AR must be their first. |
| Amurayi05-04-07, 07:28 PM | What changed was that a 1st level character who already had ARs could play...This is no longer the case. Sorry I don't see this information in the two links provided. I only see this info: "Only new or 1st-level characters can play in Greyhawk Ruins. (That is the AR for the first adventure must appear in your stack before you reach 2nd-level). " The second announcement didn't mention a change of this. (or maybe I am too blind to see it) |
| King Kashue05-04-07, 07:45 PM | The second announcement didn't mention a change of this. (or maybe I am too blind to see it) You're blind :D Q: Why is the arc only open to new characters? Starting a new character with the Domain of Greyhawk as home region allows the player to better immerse himself in the rich setting that is Greyhawk City and enables the authors to deliver a challenging but enjoyable set of adventures. Q: What happens if my character dies? Can I play subsequent parts of the series? Yes, you can play subsequent parts of the series if your first character dies. Simply make a new character but include your previous character’s AR for the first Greyhawk Ruins adventure as the first AR in your new character’s stack. Q: Do I have to play the same character in all the Greyhawk Ruins adventures or can I use different ones? You can use different characters in different Greyhawk Ruins adventures if you want. However, they must all be 1st-level when they first enter the ruins. |
| pedr05-05-07, 07:23 AM | You're not blind: it's not out and out stated in a clear sentence that only brand new characters can play, but that is the premise of the first question KingKashue quote and the second question and answer would be irrelevant and erroneous if it wasn't the case. Annoying for many - lots and lots of new characters will be created this year, I predict! - but probably makes a lot of sense. I'm looking forward to a City of Greyhawk PC! |
