| Tungar02-25-05, 10:15 AM | Hello everybody, I have another question about the rules. If I ready an attack action, must I precise which weapon I will use ? In general, it's useless, but I have a character with quick draw, and it becomes much interesting. Thanks, Tungar. |
| Tungar02-25-05, 10:55 AM | By reading the FAQ, I had my answer. You can't do a free action during a ready action, if it isn't the action readied. It's shame. :weep: Quick draw is really of no use, and it's always impossible to kick a mage with a melee weapon when she casts. |
| Rhuadar02-25-05, 11:29 AM | Quick Draw is useful. You are walking down the street and someone jumps you. Normal characters draw weapon and get a single strike at the attacker. Quick draw characters draw weapon and make a full attack at the attacker. It has its place. However its not on my list of feats to take. |

Somewhat useful for high level monks. Less useful for everyone else. Just think every time you didn't get a full attack because you had to draw a weapon. If that is often, quickdraw is for you. |

So get in a mage's grill and ready to take a 5-foot in and smack him if he starts to cast. This gets around the whole "five foot and cast" trick. Even better do it with a spiked chain. |

However, you cannot take the 5 foot step if you've already moved...I.e., you can't single move to a mage, and then ready an attack with a 5-foot step... |

I honestly can't remember when a spell went off and actually harmed my character, except Magic Missle, and there isn't much you can do about those. Getting back to the topic at hand, I like it when someone with combat reflexes and a reach weapon just gets within 10 feet of a caster, it takes the whole 5' thing out too. I tend to save my readied actions for those tense stare downs where someone is going to twitch and start a fight. I can't remember the name of the mod, but in it an arrogant fop wins the lord's archery tournament and stands in front of him to get his prize. In that instance I had readied an action to tackle the fop if he looked like he was going to harm the guy. Sure enough the fop lunged, and I was the first dude on him, even before his own low-initiative bodyguards. Later the judge, who had run the mod 6 times that weekend, told me we were the only table to keep the lord from getting attacked and that in 4 tables he actually died :weep: But yeah, most times I just charge the guy and beat him like a gub'ment mule. |

Technically, you couldn't have done that...By the rules, you cannot ready an action out of combat... Most judges will let you do that in situations that clearly could develop into combat, but by the rules they shouldn't... And the module was birthday bash...Year 2 Core... |
