| Britt02-13-07, 11:41 AM | Holy precognition, Batman! Who was it that called this in the LGCS threads? I thought it was a joke, but maybe someone had some inside info. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/215397200 |
| Alpha_Nerd02-13-07, 11:46 AM | If this doesn't explain "Trained for War" I think we need to picket outside WotC headquarters until they crack and finally give us a solid awnser. |
| Crazy Boro02-13-07, 11:49 AM | If this doesn't explain "Trained for War" I think we need to picket outside WotC headquarters until they crack and finally give us a solid awnser. But they're waiting for Complete Riding Dog to go over that. ;) |
| ZX67002-13-07, 01:03 PM | But they're waiting for Complete Riding Dog to go over that. ;) LOL! |
| sibyl02-13-07, 02:04 PM | So how big is this Rules Compendium, to incorporate all rules and all errata? I'm thinking I'll need a new suitcase just for that... :D (just kidding) |
| Britt02-13-07, 02:25 PM | Says hardcover 160 pages. Given that it also includes commentary on the rules design and evolution, it can't be all errata. It will probably cover significant changes in design methodology. |
| Eric Anondson02-13-07, 02:48 PM | The Rules Compendium has been talked about for a while now over on ENWorld. I think an entry for it showed up on Amazon some time ago. |
| Britt02-13-07, 02:54 PM | Ahh, that explains it. Thanks, Eric. |

| Japangirl02-13-07, 09:37 PM | Girl's Guide to D&D? Why would females need a special guide? Build a character with stats (in the PHB), make sure it does something useful in or out of combat, preferably both, and make sure you have a friend to look over your shoulder when you make the first character. Seems very gender neutral to me! |

Seems very gender neutral to me! I imagine it's more about how to survive the overwhelming testosterone. And the sweat - other people's, not hers. |
| UMiskatonic02-13-07, 10:26 PM | It's a very different experience to be a minority. And you -know- that women are a minority of gamers. Perhaps you don't need the book, and that's fine. But if it's valuable to the women who do game, then it should exist. And it would probably teach men a few things about how to encourage women to become/remain players, which is a good thing. |

| Eric Anondson02-14-07, 12:23 AM | Girl's Guide to D&D? Why would females need a special guide?Well, the title used to be "A Hip Girl's Guide to D&D". I think calling it just "A Girl's Guide to the D&D Game" is a better choice. From what I have heard, the author is a freelance author who got a job at WotC doing design in one of the non-RPG lines and had never played RPGs before. Eventually she was asked to jump in to a D&D game with other co-workers. The book could be anything. My guess is that it is mostly serious with a dash of humor from her personal anecdotes about an outsider jumping into the game... and probably will have NOTHING for the Living Greyhawk campaign to add for a future LGCS! |

Seems very gender neutral to me! You misunderstand the purpose of the book...Read the proposed blurb: "Totaling well over 600 pages, with a lead lined cover, the 'Girls Guide to D&D' is the perfect blunt object for all your bludgeoning needs. Is the DM softballing and patronizing your character? Are the hack-n-slash hordes mocking your attempts at role playing? Are the corpulent, socially-inept, unwashed masses taking the opportunity to accost your character in-game with pick up lines they wouldn't have the guts to try in real life (not that they actually talk to women in real life)? If those statements describe your experience at all together too many gaming tables, then the 'Girl's Guide to D&D' is the book for you. The 'Girl's Guide to D&D', because nothing says 'Take me seriously, jackass' like cold-cocking someone in the head with a 20 pound tome of role-playing goodness" |

Damn buying of books, it bankrupts me so. |
| Timlagor02-15-07, 11:58 AM | I wish I could say that didn't tempt me... but I'm sure a lot of male players could also find a use for such a tome ;) Well it sounds easier than talking to them.... |
| ithardin02-15-07, 06:03 PM | *memories of smarmy PCs accosting NPC females with such lines as "Can I buy milady a drink?" rampaging through his mind* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! |

It will probably cover significant changes in design methodology. Ya, 160 pages seem like a really abbreviated version of the core rules. I sure do hope they cover design methodology. I would like to be convinced that there has been one. And before I take a main gun round on that comment let me explain. My impression is that ever since we sold the company to Hasbro there has been much more emphasis on marketing methodologies than desigh. |
| Gaelforcwynd02-16-07, 12:12 PM | LOL! WoTC are too focused on promoting and selling splat books to even bother properly editing and proof reading their literature prior to printing. There are way too many errors which need clarifying through errata and message boards. If WoTC spent half as much time proof reading their publications before release as they do flogging the latest splat book.. Get your act together WoTC, these are your loyal customers here. |
| AnexCDC02-21-07, 11:23 AM | Considering that there is likely to be no fluff outside of examples, 160 pages of rules is alot of content. Then consider how much of each book that has been released is actual rules instead of content, or campaign creation. You can cut out the vast majority of all the complete books, about 75% of the phb, and at least 50% of the dmg. I do not doubt that they can cover all of the rules with 160 pages, but I wouldnt expect it to cover errata anymore than including it in the presentation of the rules. |
| Samwise02-21-07, 12:28 PM | They said there will be sidebars giving insight into the design process. Depending on whether you care about such things, that might be considered "fluff." Otherwise yes, it should be all content. |
| Eric Anondson02-21-07, 12:54 PM | At the DDXP's "What's Up With D&D" seminar, in the Q&A portion following the initial presentation, someone asked about the Rules Compentium. ENWorld has notes from someone who attended the seminar who reported: "Q: How will the Rules Compendium be used?" Incorporates the most current and problematic rules and situations and breaks them out into easy to handle chunks. Encyclopedic format. "One rule per page" Also incorporates stuff from the FAQ and the Sage Sidebars from the designers on some of the rules. To me, this looks to be very useful. I'm looking forward to it very much. Also, seems likely this is where we will get a clear ruling on "trained for war" animals. |

| Squeakalot02-22-07, 07:49 AM | *memories of smarmy PCs accosting NPC females with such lines as "Can I buy milady a drink?" rampaging through his mind* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I always loved "why don't you come sit on my lap and we'll talk abotu the first thing that pops up?" Then again, I know a million pick up lines and I drove my DM crazy throwing them at all the females we met. |
| kjenks02-25-07, 09:13 AM | "Totaling well over 600 pages, with a lead lined cover, the 'Girls Guide to D&D' is the perfect blunt object for all your bludgeoning needs. While I was the Senior GM at a recent convetion, a player asked me what penalty was for bludgeoning another player (who richly deserved all the bludgeoning he could get). I told him he couldn't bludgeon anybody at the con because I hadn't printed out any RPGA Player Infraction Report Forms, so I couldn't complete the paperwork on any bludgeoning that happened to occur. |

In most states the penalty for bludgeoning a player is a misdemeanor, or in the case of great bodily harm it bumps up to a felony (even when they deserve it) ;) |

| King Kashue02-25-07, 12:48 PM | At this point, I cannot find the RPGA ban list, but last time I looked at it (2 years ago or so) there were only two people on it. One guy banned for fraud for a few years. And one guy from New York (Bronx, I believe) banned for life for assaulting someone :D Intrigued by this, we googled his name (Which I won't give, both for privacy, and because I don't remember it), and he's this skinny environmentalist fellow... Too many fumes from the compost pile :D |
