Just a quick note:

ADP7-02 Scourge of the Howling Horde is now in the ordering database and available from today until the end of 2008 for Retail and Home play.

Are there blurbs for the adaptables anywhere? I can't find them on the living greyhawk site...Also...how many rounds is it?

It's 5TUs if that helps judge things.

The best source for a blurb would be the WotC Product Listing: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/953827400

Is Scourge available ONLY for 1st-level characters or what? I have a Level 1 Wizard who might be Level 2 by the time I get my hands on this, and I'm wondering if I could bring him into it regardless.

there for APLs so your fine. like with barrow of the forgotten king that is split up into 2 ARs since it expects you to level through the advneture. its APL 4 and then APL 5 and costs a total of 11 TUs.

For barrow you should play it back to back obviously to get the best experience and its a decently tough adventure though a good one.

Um, I am loathe to disagree with the esteemed TimRat, but Page 2 of the Adaptation Document for ADP7-02 Scourge of the Howling Horde says:

Living Greyhawk Levels of Play

ADP7-02 Scourge of the Howling Horde can be played by 1st level characters only. They do not have to be starting characters.

Is this now incorrect? My local group would be very pleased if they could, for instance, play this after the first part of Greyhawk Ruins! Some of them are already starting to need two hands for the number of new characters they are going to create this year!

The text of the adaptation document is correct. It is basically a special variation of the introduction adventures and it can only be played by 1st level characters.

Can PCs level up as soon as they reach 1000XP (like Red Hand) or is it standard LG levelling (post-AR)?
Madfox11

03-26-07, 03:24 AM
Standard. The ELs of the adventure would not cause a starting character to level until the last encounter anyway.

However, the above quote states that they don't need to be new PCs. Therefore, the potential existed that they could level at their first 100 xp (having come in after playing two intros, as mine will). That is interperting correctly that we can play existing 1st level characters in Scourge, right? If not, then it is indeed irrelevant.

You can play existing (1st level) characters, but the whole adventure is scaled to be a challenge to 1st level PCs. There's no need from a challenge point of view to allow in-module levelling. At least from my brief look at the actual module so far!

So Barrow is definately going to happen then? Nice to hear, but according to the product blurb Barrow is for 2nd level characters. Is it more appropriate for 4th level LG characters?

Barrow (as written) takes PCs from 2nd level to 4th-5th level. I don't know how LG will deal with it.

Cheers!

People running Scourge might be interested in Blackwall Keep (https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lgmp/20070327a) article as it provides additional background material about the village where the adventure starts. It doesn't include any spoilers so players should not worry about reading it.

About how long does this adventure run. I see above it is 5 TU. Is that like 5 core TU's (2.5 adventures worth) or is it like 5 regional TU's (5.0 adventures worth)? How many total EL's are there?
pedr

Adapted adventures follow the Core module EL to TU formula, as far as I know.

I've not prepped it yet, so don't know exactly how many ELs are in it, nor how long it takes to run.

It took us 6 hours or so, and that was with a decent amount of role-playing (though we did better than we were supposed to in the combats).

I prepped it and ran it and it took 6-7 hours with lots of roleplaying and breaks.

The average group should be able to finish in 6 hours, I would think.

Ouch. :(

When we played it, we lost our Rogue (from full health to -14 or something) in one hit; my character (a 12 con monk with Toughness <ed: not Improved Toughness, regular Toughness>) was dropped from full health to -6 in one hit. Without Toughness, he would be dead.

An extremely challenging and interesting module (LOVED the "big" bad at the end!), probably my favorite of the adaptables so far, but yeah... difficult.

Heh, same with us. The rogue took a x3 crit, and that was all she wrote.

For those who have played this adventure, I have a question:
I have two characters I am considering playing in this adventure tomorrow.
1) Snow elf cleric of Telchur
2) Rhennee human Draconic Heritage (Black) Sorceress

WITHOUT any spoilers, would you recommend one over the other for story reasons? Thanks.

This character without question.

Should prove to be fun...I'm anxious to take this character to Barrow...Adaptables are a beautiful, beautiful thing! ^_^ Eliminates all of the work included into normal modules.

I played it on Friday the 13th and I am now looking at Colour Spray in a whole new light. How can 1 spell have such a profound effect? The DM is looking at getting a new D20 after all the failed saves! :D

It could be worse (: ... well not much.

I'm really thankful for a couple of those missed saves, because If the bad guys could have seen me or moved after my turn I would have been soooo dead.
