Just faced one in a mod, and two others in mods my friends played. Seems, like there are lots of mindflayers, least in Keoland.

Perhaps this is a prelude to adding the Expanded Psionics Handbook into LG.  :nudge: nudge:

But anyway, is anyone seeing similar with the Mindflayer population?

In an about hundred adventures i've played, i've never seen a mindflayer. Drows i've seen in two and other UnderOerth monsters I cannot remember to have faced even once.

Psionics Handbook: I would not hold my breath, as Circle has repeatedly said no psionics will be included to LG.

There are not many adventures with Underoerth creeps in the Splintered Suns meta-region, but I know of at least 2, one of which you have played (though whether you would meet the creep in that adventure dependend on the choice of the players). I know of two core specials (one which had a home play version) that included mindflayers, but yeah, mindflayers are definitely not the most common used monsters from the book neither in cores nor in our region ;)

The Mindflayers have ALWAYS been there.

One appeared (albeit, as a corpse) in a Year1 Geoff Regional.

None in the Pale, although that may change since with the taking of Calbut from the stoneholders we "liberated" some extensive platinum mines that extend into the underdark.

There are quite a few aberrations wandering around in the parts we have explored.

My characters have met mindflayers on a number of occasions in the PoU and other parts of the Sheldomar Valley. They seem to be part of a major plotline even. They *are* nasty bad guys, aren't they?

But I really doubt that the Psionics Handbook is going to be approved for use in LG....

Haven't run into that many Mind Flayers down here in the Gran March (there have been 2 this past year that spring to my mind, but I think those were both metaregionals or cores). On the other hand, you can't swing a cat without hitting a doppleganger.

I'm not going to mention the region, but I heard about a mindflayer TPK'ing multiple low level parties in a regional special event for APL 2 - 6 while at a convention. I didn't find time to play that one. I can only think of one other I've run into in a module in 5 years of play.

In that mod, back then you could play with the original haste. The mind flayer took a good gulp of a haste potion and walla, he mind blasted twice per round. It was almost a tpk. All but one of us was stunned and fortunatly, he won the battle for us. Back then you could play with +1-1 certs. I used all mine to keep the last guy standing, so did everyone else. We would have used them on ourselves but it wasn't enouph.

I have met a mind flayer cabal that is supposed to be unbeatable by a party of six. They run the underdark like a mafia. There are other mind flayers I've run into that were not supposed to killed. One mind flayer makes deals with you in return for your favor, he gives you the info you need to finnish the mod.
