Okay, I have read the Living Greyhawk Campaign Standards 596 CY, I have tried to work though as much other information as I can find as well. I have played 2 adventures during a game day, as well.

Is there a good additional starting guide for Living Greyhawk that might address some of the questions I am having?

When starting a new character with meta organization access, do I try to catch a few minutes with the table judge of the first AR I am participating in? OR can I have any judge sign off on something?

If this starting Meta Organization provides the character gear of some kind that my character will not actually use, can I sell it before the game starts? OR will I need to see if the module allows selling durring the session, or wait until after my first full session to get rid of it?

After having my first AR, I believe that any judge can sign off on MILs or MICs. Is that correct?

How do I track Meta Organizational things? Do they all happen as notes on an AR that must be done by a judge either right before or right after a Module?

So yeah... any beginners sort of post that I might get a link to would be nice. Or some answers if anyone happens to know.

Thanks

Hmm... not sure about the specific metaorg you're talking about, but none of the ones here give you items. Most give access to items, and a few will even loan you items (the military Meta-org, for instance will grant its members free standard equipment for their position, but makes it very clear that these still belong to the army and you are just being granted use of them), but none just hand out items. That said, I'm fairly certain that (somewhere or another, someone else can probably find the exact quote) the rules state that you may not sell an item for more than you paid for it.

To give a specific, Though I was intending to be general. In reading the whole of the Meta Org entry there is nothing about these items being 'lended' to the player. But that may indeed be in another location, and something worth locating.

Soldier of the Standing Army

Organizational Benefits

• You gain a +1 bonus to stay on the border.
• +2 Knowledge (Local-IUZ), Gather information while in the Shield Lands.
• Receive wages of 100 Gold Pieces per year.
• Free Standard upkeep in IUZ/SHL Modules.
• Receive Standing Army Badge(valued 10gp), backpack, bed roll, flint and steel, shovel, battle axe, heavy steel shield, splint mail and a Soldiers Uniform (treat as explorer’s uniform) upon joining the Standing Army. (This may be taken at character creation)

This also raises the question as to when that 100gp is paid. At the beginning of the year, the end of the year, or at character creation and the first of every year you remain in the army?

The regions' Yahoo groups get a lot more traffic than this site does. Subscribe to your region's Yahoo group, and that will be a good place for you to get answers (especially because a lot of questions, such as metaorg stuff, are going to have answers that vary by region). You can find the URLs for the Yahoo groups in the back of the LGCS.

You should probably be having the judge of your first table sign off on the metaorg certs, esp. since, in most cases, joining the metaorg will have some sort of cost (GP or TU) that will need to be reflected on AR #1.

If this starting Meta Organization provides the character gear of some kind that my character will not actually use, can I sell it before the game starts? OR will I need to see if the module allows selling durring the session, or wait until after my first full session to get rid of it?

As DuctShuiTengu notes, this depends, in part, on whether the items are gifts or loans (the metaorg cert should make it clear; ask your Triad if it's not clear). Personally, I'd say you can't sell them until the end of your first session, since you normally can only sell stuff at the end of a module.

After having my first AR, I believe that any judge can sign off on MILs or MICs. Is that correct?

Personal opinion...have these signed off on by the judge at your actual table, not just some random Judge you track down days later.

Define "metaorganizational things"? Advancing in a metaorg? Gaining items? Some regions have tracking sheets for things like influence points, metaorg items, etc., others don't. If not, yeah, they should be tracked in the notes on your AR, since every "action" is going to be, in some way, linked to an AR (expenditures, leveling up, etc.). While, in theory, some things happen "between" adventures, for purposes of LG recordkeeping, pretty much everything needs to be associated with a particular AR.

Generally speaking, I think the answers to all of these is, "you should have your actual Judge sign these." But, that's just an opinion.

After the first year, you'd get it on the first AR (adventure) you play in each calendar year.

As far as the first year, I'd say you get the 100gp as "extra" on that first AR, and not during character creation. Note that the metaorg cert you quoted specifically says you can take the equipment during character creation, but it doesn't say that for the 100gp payment.

If it doesn't say "loan" in the metaorg entry, then you can assume it's not a loan. The reason we've pointed out "loan vs. gift" is that some metaorgs, in some regions, give equipment that's specifically noted as a loan, that must be returned if the character leaves the metaorg (and, thus, you can't sell it).

Hi

There is at least one module that grants free equipment, (25gp's worth), the same question applies.

Believe it's written somewhere that you can only sell items for half what you paid for it, ie. you cannot make a profit. I've gained a nice feycraft shortsword, which has a value for repair, etc, but no value for selling it.

Same goes for that module. I could, in theory gain a few minor scrolls, but I could never sell or barter them.

Cheers

from page 67 of the most recent LGCS

Q: Is it possible to purchase an item at a price that would then allow it to be sold for half and a profit made?
A: No. No item may be sold for more than it was purchased at any time. Sometimes errors have crept into Adventure Records allowing the possibility of this happening. If your character has done this then it needs to reverse the profit made immediately. This is your warning. The spirit of the rules and system do not support doing it so fix it.

So it sounds like since that equipment was given to you at no cost, you can't actually sell it for any money.

The reason for my earlier question about whether this was an actual gift or just your character being issued equipment is that the Gran March Military document has equipment that's standard issue for the various sections, but all read more-or-less as follows

Each infantry soldier is issued leather armor, a longspear, and a short sword. Corporals are upgraded to studded leather armor. Sergeants and higher-ranking NCOs are armed with a greataxe or greatclub, a light crossbow, and scale mail. Lieutenants are issued a light war-horse, chainmail, a long sword, and shield. These cost the soldier nothing, but must be returned when the soldier musters out. They cannot be sold, and must be replaced if lost.
With variations as appropriate for the various sections (archers are called archers instead of infantry soldiers and get a bow and light mace instead of the longspear and short sword, etc).

Welcome to the Shield Lands. You can check the region's webpage at www.shieldlands.net. You can also have more of your questions answered at the coming Source Game Day on the 24th and at later conventions.

When starting a new character with meta organization access, do I try to catch a few minutes with the table judge of the first AR I am participating in? OR can I have any judge sign off on something?

With this character, it sounds like you've already played two mods. That's fine. Provided your last mod was a SHL or IUZ mod (not likely an IUZ mod), you can have your next judge fill out metaorg certs at the table. Most likely, your judge will fill out the cert after the session, but you can let you judge know prior to the game that your character is joining the Standing Army.

If this starting Meta Organization provides the character gear of some kind that my character will not actually use, can I sell it before the game starts? OR will I need to see if the module allows selling durring the session, or wait until after my first full session to get rid of it?

You can't sell the gear the Standing Army gives you. You wouldn't want to, either. The fact that the cert refers to the 10gp value for the badge suggests that, perhaps, someday down the road, a cleric might cast an Insignia of Healing spell that requires a 10gp signet/material component of some sort (badge) and heals everyone wearing such a signet. The gp value of the badge was not written into the metaorg for someone to make a profit from it (and what a horrible profit that would be! TUs are far more precius than gold).

After having my first AR, I believe that any judge can sign off on MILs or MICs. Is that correct?

Correct.

How do I track Meta Organizational things? Do they all happen as notes on an AR that must be done by a judge either right before or right after a Module?

Since a recent revision, all metaorg activity in the Shield Lands (at least; and most other places, too) is being tracked on certificates you can find online (yahoo group: shield-lands-lg, in the "files" section) and print out to bring to your tables where you can have judges sign them.

May the Axe Grow Great.

Thanks Lomiat. I suppose it is confusing, but I was asking for one of my friends that is planning to start soon. He had many of these questions, and I had a few as well that I included. Sadly, the character I played at first was more of a spontaneous throw together to act as a healer. I'll be starting a Wizard that I intend to put more focus into on the 24th.

Also, thank you for the information about the Meta Org tracking sheets and other answers.

Growing axes great in May, something or other ;)
