Do you want more than a single level of a spell casting class? My recommendation would be monk 4/sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple X. Another option is bard 2/monk 3/dragon disciple X. Ed |

Some spellcasters, such as wizards, prepare their spells at the beginning of every day, while others, such as sorcerers and bards, are "spontaneous" casters -- they know fewer spells than wizards, but they know them innately, and they don't need to prepare them ahead of time. As long as a spontaneous caster still has spells "left" at a level for that day, he can cast any spell he knows of that level. To meet the dragon disciple's "ability to cast arcane spells without preparation", of the classes from the Player's Handbook, you'd need at least one level in sorcerer or bard. (There are probably other classes, from other books, that can get you there, but those are the basic ones.) As far as race, you can be of any allowable player-character race to start with, though the dragon disciple's melee fighting abilities will be somewhat lessened if you pick a small race (for example, a halfling or a gnome). Your allowable alignment depends on which type of metallic dragon you want to shoot for in Dragon Disciple. If you want to be Gold, you have to be lawful good. If you want to be Silver or Bronze, you have to be lawful good or lawful neutral. If you want to be Brass, you have to be neutral good or chaotic good. If you want to be Copper, you have to be chaotic good. Hope this helps. |
