| GreatSiron04-11-06, 11:48 PM | I was at work today when I thought of a cool build. A barbarian with at least one cleric lvl and the celerity domain. He would have a speed of 50 normally, and with the 1st domain spell, expedious retreat, it would jump to 80 ft. That's faster than most mounts. Of course, I'm afraid that the bonuses might not stack (I know expedious retreat and haste don't stack). Not sure where'd I go for prestige classes, but the idea of a barbarian that can charge 160ft on round two (first round if we get a surprise round, since his first action would be to cast expedious retreat) is pretty cool. |

If you play an Elven character with the following levels: Barbarian 1/Scout 3/Cleric 1(Celerity)/PrC Wildrunner 1 you will have a 70 base move. The only one that is a named bonus is the Scout which is an Enhancment bonus. Expidious Retreat is an Enhancement bonus so you would only get 20 out of the 30, but still that would give you a 90 base move..... :D ***spelling changes*** |
| Iswald04-12-06, 09:11 AM | Going fast is always a great plan. But, it works better for the dwarven or halfling cleric who has to do the healing. ;) |
| PaulH04-12-06, 01:08 PM | Hi But what about reversing the 'dip'? How about Cleric Ffarlaghn (however spelled), with just one dip into Barbarian? Domains Travel & Celerity, all those useful spells like Cat's Grace, Fly, Haste etc. Longstrider lasting 1 Hr/lvl. Speed bonuses +30'. In local (non LG, PHB only) campaign I'm going Barbarian/Druid mix. Eventually being a raging Dire Bear! What about this combi: Human Str 14 Dex 14 Con 12 In 10 Wis 15 Cha 10 Barbarian: Power Attack, Cleave Druid: Druid:Improved Toughness Druid: Druid: Druid: Natural Spell Shift into Dire Ape, Cast Gtr Magic Fang (both last 5 hrs this lvl). Combat, Bulls' Str, Rage = Str 30 2xClaws +15 melee (D6+11), Bite +10 melee (D6+6) Rend 2D6+16 AC pretty rubbish, but good HP, magical damage, likely rend etc etc etc.... Pointless taking Half-Orc because you'll lose Str when 'shifting'. Int 10 because already get good Skill Points (5/lvl). I know it's not quite the 'speed king', but you can shift into faster beasties as you want. (eg. Dire Wolf, 50' move, but only 1 attack/rnd). Cheers PaulH |
| Nerax04-12-06, 08:02 PM | Shift into Dire Ape Dire Ape is a Large creature so you need 3 more levels of Druid to do this. |
| GreatSiron04-12-06, 08:19 PM | But what about reversing the 'dip'? How about Cleric Ffarlaghn (however spelled), with just one dip into Barbarian? Yeah, but then what's the point of charging into battle in the first place if I have to break off every few rounds cause somebody got hit too hard, not to mention the lost extra hit points and rages? I like to cause damage. (Which really makes me wonder why my first character was a rogue, ah, live and learn). That's why when I made an arcane caster, I made him a grey elf warmage, to cause as much magic damage as I possibly could. :D |
| ranagrande04-13-06, 08:13 AM | This sounds a lot like my newest character. He's going to be a fast-running, hard-hitting, spring-attacking monstrosity. I'm going with Scout 5/Barbarian 1/Cleric 1/Fighter 1/Ranger 1/Wildrunner 1/Highland Stalker 2/Animal Lord 3. I'll have a base land speed of 70, but the Horselord's Wild Aspect will raise it to 80 for three hours per day. I think I can fit in two feats to spend on speed, which will raise it to 90. If I then use Expeditious Retreat, I'll max out at 110. I'll also have +3d6 skirmish damage and a whole bunch of other fun stuff. |

I would suggest at least 2 levels of Wildrunner for Primal Scream and Scent. Also I would invest alot in potions of Protection from Evil as your Will save is going to suck.... :P |
| ranagrande04-14-06, 08:07 AM | Primal Scream is nice, but it isn't enough for me to give up something else. Maybe I'll take Wildrunner 2 at level 16 so I have it if I ever do high-level stuff. I'm not worried about the will save. It's only one less than if I went straight Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, or Scout. |

As for Hp you're only 1/lvl behind Fighter, 2 behind pure Barbarian. Endurance spell sorts that. Extra Rage feat at 3rd Lvl grants 2 extra rages/day. You want to do extra damage - 2 lvls Master Many Forms allows 2 extra wildshapes/day, & allows shaping into any Humanoid, Giant or Large creatures. Eg. Barb 1/Druid 5/Master Forms 2 8hrs/day Troll: Str 23 Dex 14 Con 23 HP 95 (this form) You can even cast spells in this form! Attack 2xClaws +11 (Gtr Magic Fang), Dam D6+7; Bite +6/Dam D6+4 (Rend 2D6+10) OR: 2H Sword +10, Dam 2D6+9, Bite as above. All this without raging. The 2H Sword is used 1H, so can even use shield for extra AC! (You've already gained +5 Nat Armour) As you gain levels, you can even change into larger giants, etc. Cheers Paul H |
