It comes from the spell compendium, do i have access to it? If it's not listed as either open or closed than it's NONC (Not open, not closed). This means you need specific campaign documentation to use the rules item in question, such as AR access. |
| clannagh07-26-07, 02:39 AM | As a Non-open/Non-closed (NONC) spell you will need an AR or metaorg that gives you access to a spellbook or scroll of it before you can take it. You cannot just take it or scribe it from another players spellbook. You need certed evidence you have access. Its this limited access to feats and spells that makes LG interesting (as opposed to harass the GM to allow it access in home games) . Eventually getting access to a good NONC feat or spell or PrC is a very satisfying thing and part of the challenge of LG |
| TetsujinOni07-26-07, 09:09 AM | Y'know, answers which add a new term cloud the issue. The following is consistent with the LGCS access rules in CY597 as far as I've seen. If you do not have campaign documentation allowing you to use the spell (or other rules item), you cannot use the spell (or other rules item). The LGCS provides campaign documentation for the D&D3.5 Core, with certain spells closed from access, as well as many other rule sources. Metaplay documents, or the GRS, as well as access granted by adventures played, will provide access to new rule items. |
| cignus707-26-07, 09:22 AM | nuts. ok..stabilize is a cool spell, cleric 2, heals everyone in an area for 1 point, tack on augment healing and now you have a second level spell that heals everyone for 5 ok so, if its in spell compendium and its not on the open spell list or the closed spell list then its considered closed until you get campaign doc. the funny thing is its on the Healer's spell list. |
| pedr07-26-07, 10:12 AM | Yes. The LGCS extends the Healer's Spell list but doesn't Open spells which are on the list but not Open; what this means is that Healers, like Clerics, can use those spells if they get campaign documentation Opening them: it means that a Healer remains slightly better at healing than a Cleric, as was the intent of the designers of the class (though Spontaneous Healer is probably a required feat; I think that no-one in WotC had come up with the idea of a Warmage-style spontaneous caster when the Healer was designed!) |
| kjenks07-26-07, 10:55 AM | The official list of Open spells is in the LGCS. See my list of Open LG spells here for a class-by-class breakdown, with brief descriptions and notes. http://members.aol.com/kenjenks/lg/ |
