Can a spell casting character with the spring attack feat cast a touch spell, move, attack(with the touch spell) and move again.

If so it stands to reason if a cleric with the spring attack feat can cast inflict light wounds, move, touch attack and move agian that same cleric could cast Cure Light Wounds move, touch, and move again?

Thoughts?

Here's the text of Spring Attack:

Benefit
When using the attack action with a melee weapon, you can move both before and after the attack, provided that your total distance moved is not greater than your speed. Moving in this way does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the defender you attack, though it might provoke attacks of opportunity from other creatures, if appropriate. You can’t use this feat if you are wearing heavy armor.

You must move at least 5 feet both before and after you make your attack in order to utilize the benefits of Spring Attack

The first line of the feat specifies that you have to be 'using the attack action with a melee weapon'. Spells do not count as melee weapons. Unarmed attacks do, but delivering touch spells is different from making unarmed attacks. In my opinion, you can't do what you're suggesting.

To clarify, you could in one round cast the touch spell, and then spring attack with that touch spell in the next round. You just can't cast and spring attack in the same round, unless it's a swift spell...

In my opinion, if you took the spring attack chain, you could cast the spell, hold it and spring attack in and out the second round. However, if you also had mobile spellcasting along with spring attack, I'd allow you to cast and spring attack in the same round.

Pre-charged touch attack spells do count as melee attacks for AoO, and hence for an AoO against a creature damaged by CLW it would work for AoO

In this case the blurb specifically mentions melee "weapon" so I am unsure if the AoO precedent would apply. I would be inclined to allow spring attack with CLW as a DAMAGE attack.

The other issue would be if you were trying to actually "cure" rather than damage with the spring attack. This seems a lot more doubtful .. curing is not an "attack" .

Well what if you cast CLW, and wanted to spring attack with it against a creature you THOUGHT was undead, but turned out not to be? Should whether or not you can spring attack with a cure spell be dependant on the intended use of the ability? Of course not. And in any case, even if you are springing up to touch an ally and then back: A) You can't spring attack in heavy armor, and B) When spring attacking, you only don't provoke AOO's from the target you are springing to. Most clerics like heavy armor, and they would still be at risk of an AOO if the enemy threatened the area around your ally...

If you can cast a spell(touch spell) move and attack in the same round why couldn't a character with spring attack "split his move action in that round in order to move both before and after the attack"" like the feat says he can.

It's a bit shady as to whether a touch attack, despite the fact it attacks like a melee weapon actually counts as one-granted.

More opinions?

Spring attack works with the attack action, not other random standard actions such as casting a spell.
