Steel Tower Shields - Core to buy?? [Archive] - Wizards Community

A player of mine wants to know if Steel Tower shields are core or do u need access?

unfortunately the standard ones are wooden

this also would likely mean a mithral one needs special access (over and above having access to the mithral itself) as well

01-25-07, 01:38 PM If you have mithril access, you can get a mithril tower shield. 'Steel Tower Shield' is a specific item, like leather plate or chitin armor, so you need specific access to get it.

You can't purchase a Mithral Tower Shield unless you have access to a metalic Tower Shield.

The tower shield in the PHB is specifically listed as being made of wood, therefore cannot be crafted from Mithral.

Not all access to special materials allows you to use it for non-PHB items.

For example, I have Acess to all the Races of Stone equipment and I have Access to have suit of armor made from Mithral. Unfortunately for me, the mithral access specifically states that the armor must be from the PHB...so no mithral Battle Plate for me..:(

01-26-07, 01:52 PM Races of the wild page 168 armor table 7-2 lists Mithril Tower shield. So all you need is access to it. Also I imagine if you have access to a steel tower shield and a mithril favor you could get it that way as well as long as the favor is worded in a way to allow it.
