| Simpi07-04-04, 02:39 PM | Hello. I'll be running some LG games in a con at the end of this month. Of course I have Naerie regionals but i've also booked a single core module. At the moment I have a copy of 'By Cunning & Forced Cause' ready but even though it is an excellent module, it might be too hard for new players, who I am aiming this event. Therefore I would like recommendation if any Y3 core modules are particularly suitable for new players. One of my choices is Face Value but that is a bit too simple for my taste, considering i'm also running Naerie intro module there as well. Therefore I would like to know if any of these are good for new players. COR3-03 Fury of a Cold Man's Heart. COR3-05 Circle of Sin COR3-15 Nine Lives I've not played any of those so I would need some information. I'm especially interested if Fury of Cold man's heart is the one in 'For the Greater Good' series where you get a curse since new players won't have a change to remove it. Thank you. Circle of Sin is a great murder mystery module that's not too difficult if you follow the clues closely and I'd recommend it if you want to show them that LG isn't just hack n' slash DnD. Nine Lives was a different kind of module. I personally didn't like it much but that's just my opinion. It might be a bit too repetitive and boring for new players. So out of the two that I've played I'd highly recommend Circle of Sin. I played it and DM'd it and I found it to be very fun and challenging and it's a great role-playing module as well. Hope this helps :) |

I don't think Fury works at low level, it's a great scenario at high levels but the setting doesn't work at low APLs for me, without spoiling it. Face value is simple and very easy, we ripped it up in 3 hours playing up an APL. Nine lives is an odd scenario which can be fun with the right DM and party, not my cup of tea though. I'd recommend Circle of sin. |

I found that these are well suited for low level parties. The combats scale down gracefully and there's a lot of RP possibilities. You can even avoid some combats by effective RP. The only one I would worry about at all would be By Cunning and Forced Cause. The final encounter has a LOT of possibilities for resolution, so the GM needs to be prepared for all of them and perhaps "steer" the PCs to the one they are most able to handle. The following are also available at APL 2, but there are a lot of tough combats, so they are not necessarily appropriate for very low level groups (e.g. average level below 2.5). I'd recommend a well-balanced party at the upper end of APL 2 (e.g. 5 characters average level 2.5 to 3.4 or 6 characters average level 2 to 2.4 and "playing down" to APL 2). 3-03 Fury of a Cold Man's Heart 3-13 The Traitor's Road 3-17 When Orcs Attack Marcia |
| Simpi07-06-04, 03:18 AM | Hello. Thanks for the comments. I quess I will try out Circle of Sin with my regular group and see how good it is. Oh, and if anyone is coming to Finland during 23-25th.7, you can stop by at Ropecon (www.ropecon.fi). I will run the only Y3 Naerie regional there and have a premiere of the NAE4-01. I also run NAEI3-01 and a single core module. It's not confirmed yet but second DM might be available to run some Splintered Sun meta-regional modules. S.H |
