So, back from Pandemonium Frost in Detroit (Furyondy) now. The interactive was awesome - our APL 14 (although we wanted the 16 variety) table was a strike team, charged with the task of slaying Althea, Greater Boneheart of the Old One, while the general army attacked the city (can't remember which one it was). Things went dandy until our paladin commented "Are you just throwing soft encounters at us?", and the GM decided that was the cue to start the untiered encounter.

Apparently, mariliths spawning at the rate of four/round and the "You see a wide rift into the Abyss in the next room" description, combined with the fact that the general retreat had been called, was meant to be enough to give us the hint that leaving was a good idea. Hmm, no. We're crazy. In fact, crazy enough to dash into the next room, swarming with demons, prepared to analyse dweomer the rift and attempt to take it down (hey, we had a mission to do). When the demons with obvious class levels arrived and the antimagic fields started going up, we got the hint though... We just didn't see why four mariliths a round wasn't a fair fight at APL 14? I mean, 7 dead (through a gate - so dead-dead), four banished, in three rounds... We were doing great! I'm sure that Iuz can't really afford to lose his demonic generals at that rate! Alas, I can't claim credit for any of those kills/banishments. Two to Lomiat, four to Yolande, and five to our super-buffed Paladin whose name I can't remember. It felt a bit weird to retreat when there were almost more temporary hitpoints left in the party than there were real hitpoints though...

Anyway, given that this is the last year of the campaign, we've got a number of Iuzian NPCs that we need taken out. So, let's compile a list of them, then we can call dibs. Here's who I know of:

Archmage Null, Greater Boneheart
Wizard Jumper, Boneheart
Althea, Greater Boneheart (Cleric)
Halga, Greater Boneheart (Cleric)
Eclavdra, High Priestess of Lolth
Kaquizel, general all-round bad guy (wizard)
Keak, Greater Boneshadow (wizard)
Kermin Mindbender, Greater Boneheart
Drelzna, sister of Iuz (vampire)

Also, just for good measure:
Avehovna, Marilith of Pazuzu (Pazrael)
Zezaxitaz, Annoying Imp of Opportunity (yessss, fleshbagssss!)

I'm claiming Althea for Yolande, Lomiat and Maesto (that's our mission. No, your group is not taking this mission. Us! Now! We go!). I think Azrien has a spell with Kaquizel's name on it, and Maesto has a spell with Null's name on it too.

So, is there anybody else to take out, and are any of them already reserved?

Right, so we call dibs and then where is it that we get to step up to the challenge?

The Sons of Thunder are always up for killing some more Bonehearts.

Hey Maesto, Keak was taken care of by my group, We dim anchored him and took out his body, disintergrated it, and my PC has the ashes.

Though I think the campaign consequences didn't go that way...

Sarian surprised the crap out of him with 28d6 of dice in a round when he got top of the order... (though he turned out harder to kill than that)

So if he is still somehow wandering about then... grrr...

I notice that uz's sister is missing.. wonder why... (Sarian takes credit for that too, he doesn't care what others say, he sneak attacked Iuz's vampire sister to death!... grumble grumble...)

I like Cynrics idea of drawing all the greater boneshadows chasing him in eagle form over a hill into the arms of an army of waiting adventurers, and then we storm the capital... We'll probably all die trying, but the death of all of his marilith generals may help...

If you wanna join in Maesto, I do not believe any of us are expecting to last more than a second or two. But for a final mission, if we can get it approved it would be worth it.

:weep: My group, sadly, played that mod at a convention in a three-hour slot, and we weren't told there was an expanded play option until the very end of the slot. I would've liked to take Keak on...

So if he is still somehow wandering about then... grrr...

True Resurrection still works I think (since it doesn't require any part of the body, just an unambiguous identification of the deceased) - it's unfortunately difficult to keep Bonehearts dead.

Evidently, we need to have Trap the Soul, thinaun or Malthindor on hand for all our future Boneheart-killing endeavours, unless we can get them all (and dethrone Iuz) in one go...

Personally, I still like the "Everyone casts Sending at the target from inside Perrenland" trick - although with the Gloom gone, that probably doesn't work any more ;) (Perrenland used to have a special anti-divination-and-communication-magic effect, which, among other things, caused a Sound Burst to go off next to the recipient of any Sending spell...)

I miss Keak, he was very Gyre-able.

We do need to have a bit of a cleaning house I think, but I doubt there'd be enough time left in the campaign to effectively win against Iuz. Unless someone has some certed Brawndo and could tell us what AR it was on? :D

IMO if Chaotic Evil is played right, this should not be a problem. Iuz has no reason to raise someone who failed him. No one below him has a reason to raise him as it a survival of the fitest situation. They want his position and power, their chance to prove to Iuz that they are better. The only ones who don't want the boneheart dead are the Lawful Evil authors in our midst. :-)

If I served Iuz and failed in death, I would have to try and turn down a ressurection from an evil demigod famous for his torture methods.

Well if you don't kill him and his minions in the final battle he will probably run riot once the PCs all leave or retire in late 598.

" The balance of power in Greyhawk moved in favor of the forces of evil in late CY598 when a huge number of famous and not so famous adventurers either retired or mysteriously disappeared all within a few short months. "

Caring about IUZ is a good idea. As far as I know he is currently trying to hoodwink the circle of eight into believing, that the only possibility to save Oerth is to help him reach his goals. If I am correct, he is doing a very good job up to now and if he reaches his goal, he does not need his minions any more. If you want to figure out, where this is going to you should probably connect the following pieces: Vecna Incident, Tovag Baragu, Doomgrinder and IUZ. Well, I could be wrong, but I think the connection and the outcome of the effects will seal the fate of oerth. In the end it could all sum up to one question: Can one evil be balanced by another one? At least this is, what IUZ wants to make the circle believe. Needless to say, that I have a different opinion on that.
Do I have real evidence for that? No dy hard evidence, but it is sort of educated guess. Ah, and if I am right it has something to do with colliding planes.:D
