I'm going to be running some 2005 Core adventures for friends of mine in home games. What are the best of the lot? These would all be at APL2 and I'd be avoiding the Bright Sands adventures as I'm going through them as a player.

My favorite so far has to be story for another day.

The complete list of APL 2 595 Core adventures that aren't Bright Sands modules are: Voice of Reason, Atonement, Desecrators of the Lords' Tomb, A Marked Man, Clipping Wings, Return to the Undercity, The Price of Power, Here Comes the Sun!, Kusnir, and Retribution.

My favourite from that list would have to be Clipping Wings. It's part of a really great ongoing series with fantastic NPCs and locations, and while it's not the first mod in the series (that would be Shedding Scales), I think it should work okay as an entry point.

Atonement and Here Comes the Sun! are good investigative modules, while A Marked Man and Return to the Undercity are more straightforward but still have some fun roleplay. When I did Desecrators of the Lord's Tomb and Voice of Reason (both at APL 10), they both seemed fairly hack-and-slash-oriented, but I haven't read the mods so that may be a function of my party and GM.

Hope that helps :)

Voice of Reason was quite fun- albeit aggravating playing at APL 4 with: Wizard 2, Rogue 2, Fighter 3, Sorcerer 6, Barbarian 2. But...Desecrator's was fun- I enjoyed it for the latter reason in the title (TOMB!).

Yeah, I was thinking of doing Voice of Reason. Are there any other mods in that group which give out 900xp rather than the standard 450xp for APL2? If I could get these guys quickly leveled up while they are in town it will make it all the more likely that they will continue on with the game in their own areas.

Voice of Reason gives out 900xp, but it also takes about twice as long to play as the other modules (2 rounder). I think all the other ones mentioned are single round 450xp modules.

COR5-03: Atonement is my favourite among Y5 modules. COR5-18: Kusnir is another good one and Marked Man/Undercity are simple enough for new players as well.

Undercity is rather difficult for a party of 1st level characters only... especially if that first level party consist of people relatively new to D&D.

Personally, I most enjoyed DMing Clipping Wings and Atonement. I think I get a better idea as a DM how good a mod is than I do as a player (too much of the player's experience depends upon the table composition and DM, rather than the mod itself).
