to who ever is creating the last mod for grey hawk, i would like to say make it APL 2 to 16 but i would much rather see it as 6 or 8 to 16 so that it is far more climactic

also, please dont make the last mod an investigative/standard type mod make it something EPIC climactic, a way that it could end and still be good (ie we banished all evil to another plane or the world was over ran by demons if we failed exct)

does any one else feel like this?

Interesting idea, but we know from Pluffet Smedger’s compilations in 998 CY that the world is alive and well at that time, though with much less magic inherent... Of course, I suppose that doesn't preclude a demonic infestation and subsequent cleanup in the 400 years between us and him, but you think he would have mentioned it... ;)

well i guess what i mean (this is a cheezie way to compair it but) is that i want it to be like the ending of a TV series the last few minutes are what u watched for waiting for the last few years to see type thing

I really hope they don't have the ending be min level 6 or 8. My highest is 5 for the 4th time and I'd like to see the ending. Maybe make it one of those mods that have multiple versions for different APLs, where if you are sufficiently foolhardy you can stray into the APL + 6 instant-doom zone but you have enough forewarning that you know not to go there.

The tentative plan is for a minimum APL 6 or so. The storyline we have planned won't work well at low APLs, but the increased play opportunities between now and then should make a minimum APL 8 easily achievable by pretty much anyone by Origins next year.

APL 16? If we're going to end the most successful campign ever, you'll need the best ending ever then, APL 6-20

No, make it APL 6-16 with an optional untiered encounter with an EL 23.

any one who saw 300 knows what i mean... let everything culminate to this moment and face something we might not even be able to beat!

i fully intend to go into the last mod with a group of 15th level kobold fighters and clerics and to have the leader say "BEHIND YOU" (spartan like movement of spears and sheilds)

also without TUs its very possible (using RHoD and demonweb) to get to level 15 from level 1 with just ADPs

KOBOLDS PREPAIR FOR GLORY!

Just please don't use this plot.

Powerful NPC wants characters to bring a box someplace, and the box must not be opened. Generally the NPC involved in this plot is more than capable of just teleporting the box someplace themselves.

Usually with this plot someone else will try to buy the box and some other party will attack the characters in order to get the box.

I know this is pretty much the most popular LG plot, but I would love to see something different for the last module.

Maybe just make the box a pot instead.

That should cover it.

just make it a "deliver the box to this location, its an extra dimensional space that can only be accessed by being there, and its a "dead zone" for magic :P

I agree for something epic

I want to see some world encompassing threat, something that could effect all regions.

I'd love to see almost interactive style, where, where your PC is from matters, that you clearly represent your home region, and fighting to not only defend the core regions, but your home aswell. MAybe even split mini-encounters based off your region before moving into to final epic battle. One mod that comes to mind for something similar is VER5-07: Crown Fire

Why not jump to 1000 CY this would have really great Apocolyptic over tones. With it being the end of the first millenium people would fear it like another Uwd Boll movie. Think of how many despots and want to be tyrants could see this as their one chance for glory. Of Course Champions from all around would rise up to stop them. But hey that's what we are here for. Remember how many people crapped themselves in 1999 about the Y2K problem and we live in an age of reason. The people Greyhawk don't they live in a Theocracy. Where the gods toy with the lives of morals for both pleasure and revenge. Mabye this is how it will end Rary mass produces the Scorpion Crown. Gives it to the PC's that suported him in an effort to kill all the evil Gods. The down side is the good gods feel threated and you have to kill them to because they insist there must be balance. What a way to end it no divine magic in the world ever again. This would create whole new classes and potentaily set up 4E Arcane Healers are long over due.

Burke refers to that encounter as "Then I destroyed the Sword of Kaz and the Eye and Hand of Vecna".

Not as "I released Vecna". He's probably easier to kill anyway now, since I think Oerth is native for him and he's on the plane where death = permadeath.

My table stopped him from being released (mostly by sheer blind luck, slightly by good play), and our reward was a nasty curse and all the favors crossed off our ARs :weep: (you only get the favor of the druid's organization if you return her dead body - we kept her alive) That was something I didn't like about that mod, that thwarting Vecna's plots didn't give you anything good. Even a flavor AR item saying "I Saved Oerth And All I Got Was This Stupid Favor" would've been better than nothing ;)

On-topic, I'll be a bit upset if the final mod doesn't go to APL 16 - or at least, have the option for EL 20+ encounters that are actually meant to be fought, I don't mind if it's called Ultra Augmented APL 12 if the encounters are tough enough. I do hope the Serpent features, and ideally I'd like to see the Dreaming plotline completely wrapped up before or at the end (most of the Pentarch is still out there and I've seen a lot of Tiamat activity in mods lately), but that's a personal preference since my favorite character is obsessed with magic and dragons ;)

You should realistically have received the druids favor.
We failed, btw, by sheer bad luck: when we placed our group on the battlemap we accidentally placed the druidess at the edge of teh group. We then got webbed - except for the druidess who ran off and did stupid things.
The only people who could have stopped her were Nes (who was grappled by the hand) and Douwe (who was prone fighting the Eye).
Had I not forgotten Nes' travel domain power, then she might have been in a better position, otoh it is quite possible she would then have been making the Will saves instead...

travel domain doesn't help vs physical grapples, only magical ones.

In my case, after three years of listening to people say "kill it with X weapon"...and it being the right thing to do, my monk was quite susceptable to "only the sword of kaz can kill it".

I had shook off the sword's attempt to get me to pick it up, but when somebody in my party told me to...I just automatically followed those instructions :) The people who could have countermanded those instructions were all way back extracting themselves from battlefield control magic.

Hey....the guy DID die.....

We got him with a baleful polymorph, failed both saves. And no one actually came close enough to the sword to force a will save. I would be interested in reading the mod, as it got cut short (after the polymorph) due to time restrictions.

Why not? Travel domain says "as if you were affected by the spell freedom of movement." And Freedom of Movement says "subject automatically succeeds on any grapple check made to resist a grapple attempt".

it also says it only applies to magical effects.

Read the whole thing, rather than snipping quotes out of context.

09-13-07, 01:08 PM
So it's not the same as the freedom of movement spell? It only triggers if it's a magical impediment?

What if someone grapples you and another one throws up an Evard's Black Tentacles? Can you move on your turn because the domain ability triggered, or does it only allow escape from the Evard's but not the physical grapple? If you then escape the grapple with a regular grapple or escape artist (after the domain ability has expired), can you move within the spell area because you already "escaped" the Evard's?

Man, this is confusing. What are the odds 4e makes things like this clearer?

I ment for the web we were in. Had I remembered the travel domain power, I would have double moved forward, rather than struggling, and ended up at the altar.

The sequence was:
- We get webbed (iirc due to a timestop or something)
- Nesalia struggles out of the web (half movement) and makes it onto the battlemap
- The Hand charges and grapples Nes
- Druidess moves and gets herself killed

-Dave

It's not the trigger, it is the power itself.

" you can act normally regardless of magical effects that impede movement as if you were affected by the spell freedom of movement. "

MAGICAL EFFECTS THAT IMPEDE MOVEMENT are ignored as if you had free movement on.

It does not trigger the freedom of movement spell - it only triggers an ability that lets you ignore magical effects that impede movement similar to what you'd be able to do with the free movement spell.

If instead the power was "you get the effect of the freedom of movement spell for X rounds" triggered by "magical effect that impedes movement" (like a contingency spell), it would help against physical grapples. But that is not what the domain power does.

They could have written a whole unique rule for this, but instead referenced an existing mechanic. It only causes a problem in confusion if you mistake what they said for "triggers the freedom of movement spell"

In the case of a physical grapple and evards, the evards would not affect you for purposes of being grappled or movement rates, but the guy who grabbed you would still have you. (he might be impeded by evards from some actions, such as "move the grapple")

Let's see - from memory, on my table, we dispelled the druid's freedom of movement by accident (attempting to remove what we thought was mind-control), and then she got grabbed by the archer's constrictor snake (from a rod of the python). Our party was three casters plus an archer, so we dealt with the people doing the ritual by evards + silence + archer readies to disrupt spellcasting (it turned out one of the baddies had FoM already up, and could get out of the silence + evards and still cast - but not when she got shot every time she tried). After the dust settled, we wandered in, had a look at what was left, and then teleported home, still mostly clueless about what had been happening ;) I may have some of that wrong, though, it was quite a while back.

Few people in our group had a clue, and when they did it it was too late.
It's a sad day when the only person who realizes what is happening is insane...
I mean we had some serious spellcasting mojo with us...

The web was not due to the timestop. It was cast by another character at the scene ;)

It is a bit of a simplification though, because you as a group did not realize what was going on immediately. If you had, you probably could have stopped her. Even now you had several shots, but the dice transpired against you. I remember a counterspell failing or succeeding that only had a 1 on 10 chance on getting the for the group bad result.
