| control freak07-10-07, 03:10 PM | this thread is for what people think is the most broken class/feat/ spell that is closed to PCs only my oppinon on them is as follows Class: malconvoker, is stupid at higher levels Feat: sudden maximize, empower, quicken (possibly because i went from having 63 hit points (as a cleric) at level 5 playing up to APL6 he max, emp a 7th level scorching ray shooter 12d6 maxed is 72, i go to -9 and bearly survive) that might be why i hate the sudden feats going from full and compleatly buffed to -9 playing up only 1 level kind of ticked me off and as for malconvoker, it is possible that i think this because i have played one in a for fun game at home when we were bored just started a 11th level adventure because we wanted to test some things and decided that malconvoker is just dumb...(shakes head) standard action to summon 2 devils/ demons is wrong, we also played with conj ice beast spells, ice beast devils = EWWWW |
| kenobi6507-10-07, 03:22 PM | You might want to modify the title of this thread, if you can. It makes it sound like you're soliciting opinions on which authors are the most broken. ;) |
| Britt07-10-07, 03:24 PM | Sudden Metamagic feats are not NPC Only. You have to be Good or Neutral to be a Malconvoker. Summon monster spells at higher levels are much weaker than other spells of the same spell level, IMO. Having a high level PrC ability that lets you summon two demons or devils for the cost of one only makes summoning spells viable at high levels. |
| bitznarf07-10-07, 03:25 PM | Note that the 'Authors only' tags in the LGCS really don't mean much. Some things that are labeled as 'Closed' and don't have the 'Author only' symbol next to them may still be allowed into mods, even ones that have yet to be released. |
| control freak07-10-07, 03:51 PM | O.O i was told they were closed upon closer inspection they are NONC but is about as closed as "a special con only mod 1 time 1 year" is only way to get them, at least to my meager knowlage ( 27 or so mods) i have only seen npcs have it any know of no one with it as a feat then again some regional thing may give it to you but i doubt it and you can easly be neutral and fight PCs so malconvoker is annoying that way( mostly wizard ones that try to break it because of all the meta magics that can pour on them) if you have ever fought a summoner, you will remember it is bad, but when you fight summoners with monsters that have imp grab and consistently grapple the entire party.... gets stupid :D but some times thats just DnD i sopose hahah |
| Eric Anondson07-10-07, 04:14 PM | You might want to modify the title of this thread, if you can. It makes it sound like you're soliciting opinions on which authors are the most broken. ;)That's exactly what I thought it was about. |
| control freak07-10-07, 04:21 PM | well all right that seems to be an interesting topic so we can add that to the thread, who do you think is the most broken author |
| gomeztoo07-10-07, 04:26 PM | As that is something that is sure to get personal, let's not? |
| Britt07-10-07, 04:27 PM | Me...I'm broken...inside. le cry. :raincloud :bravo: |
| vvincent07-10-07, 05:09 PM | Me...I'm broken...inside. le cry. :raincloud :bravo: Aww - buck up little shaver. Turn that frown upside down and put on a happy face. We still luv ya. Come here, ya scamp, and let Uncle Vern give ya a good noogie! :thinks: |
| Britt07-10-07, 05:20 PM | No! No noogies! |
| _metz_07-10-07, 06:10 PM | well all right that seems to be an interesting topic so we can add that to the thread, who do you think is the most broken author Oh hell no. LEts not start a 'whinge about authors thread'. If you have a problem with an author, take it up with triad. Alternatively email the author to find out the intent of the encounter, often Bad DMing is to blame. If the problem is a core author, then get your triad to take it up with the circle. This is NOT an appropriate medium for such discussion. Please change the name of this thread, and don't start a flame war, we need as many authors in LG as it is, and I imagine almost all of them (if not all) would have the best interests of players in mind. |
| control freak07-10-07, 06:14 PM | how can i change the title? |
| bitznarf07-10-07, 06:16 PM | Double click next to the current title while in the root forum. |
| control freak07-10-07, 06:25 PM | thank you, didnt mean to start controvercy it was started as a thread to talk about broken/funny rules items (feats PrCs exct) and the fact that sudden meta magics wasnt closed made me :uh-huh: :OMG! but it was interesting |
| UMiskatonic07-10-07, 07:15 PM | Even a 5th level cleric can cast resist fire and protection from fire. Either one would have left you standing, as would a good roll on an aid spell. |
| Mattastrophic07-10-07, 07:17 PM | that might be why i hate the sudden feats going from full and compleatly buffed to -9 playing up only 1 level kind of ticked me off Get ready for some pain, then. My last death had me playing DOWN and I got dropped to -13 in one shot. Without any sudden feats, or any metamagic feats at all. -Matt |
| control freak07-10-07, 07:34 PM | Get ready for some pain, then. My last death had me playing DOWN and I got dropped to -13 in one shot. Without any sudden feats, or any metamagic feats at all. but what was your HP, and how? did he roll stupidly high? granted disintigrate, or some such would be bad but depends on APL (considering i was playing up and i never had a chance to save, or cast resist energy) and as for hit points i was decked out with better then an aid spell (rolling a 6 or better) useing divine vigor, and bears endurance to boost my Hitpoints |
| Mattastrophic07-10-07, 08:04 PM | I had blown through my temporary hit points from an earlier encounter and was down to 47. I took 61 from a Delayed Blast Fireball. I had Evasion and a super Reflex saved, and it was the one time in a blue moon that I rolled bad. Oh well, such is life. Nothing to call "Close this!" over. -Matt |
| control freak07-10-07, 09:15 PM | thats why you get favors that say "reroll 1 failed save" (giggles) or the one i got i believe its +6 to 1 save and you dont fail on a nat 1 and also your describing a squishieish character, i have a con of +2 imp toughness, divine vigor, and bears endurange all up and only 1 level behind the curve(thats not that bad) well the fact that i had an AC of 28 (i was also AC buffed) was the only reason i had my temp hp and my con hp left, lucky i got quick revenge :emp: i did lose the summon i was casting but next round my dogs droped the wiz (a marshal with + 6 charisma and flanking aura and +2 from major aura makes even dogs potential fighters) i believe that the 6 dogs surrounding him dealt up ward of 100 damage in 1 round cus they all smited evil and 3 crit needless to say, he was doggie chow |
| Mattastrophic07-10-07, 09:47 PM | needless to say, he was doggie chow See, nothing to complain about. -Matt |
| GeorgeFHarris07-11-07, 10:05 AM | this thread is for what people think is the most broken class/feat/ spell that is closed to PCs only Blasphemy - Especially with the half-fiend template. Non-Associated classes. Especially when they Give a Succubus 6 levels of warmage and call it non-associated, so she's only CR 10. Or the infamouse Geoff Frost Giank Mnk20, where the 20 Monk levels were only a +10 to CR. Creating Bards (Diresingers) with abilities based off of ranks of perform, and then only giving their total perform bonus in the stat block (so what should be a DC 21 save ends up being a DC 38 save when the GM doesn't realize that the DC is based off of perform ranks because it isn't listed anywhere). | control freak07-11-07, 10:14 AM | that reminds me, id like to add, ANYTHING that is evil spells |
| KShaver07-11-07, 11:17 AM | (possibly because i went from having 63 hit points (as a cleric) at level 5 playing up to APL6 he max, emp a 7th level scorching ray shooter 12d6 maxed is 72, i go to -9 and bearly survive) I assume you mean he sudden maximized an empowered scorching ray. The damage is a little off each of his two rays would do 4d6, maximized to 24, then empower would add 4d6x.5 for each ray. The empowered bonus damage still needs to be rolled for seperately so the damage you took should be: 24 + 4d6x.5 + 24 + 4d6 x.5 That averages to 62 damage, the only way the ray could have dealt the full 72 is if the damage was physically rolled and came up all natural 6s.(In which case it would have dealt 72 damage without the sudden maximize). |
| Howie2307-11-07, 11:29 AM | that reminds me, id like to add, ANYTHING that is evil spells I thought the subject was author only items? PCs can cast [evil] spells unless their class prohibits it. |
| control freak07-11-07, 11:40 AM | well yea but they need an atonement spell after each one -.- evil spell= evil act |
| bitznarf07-11-07, 12:11 PM | I think you need to look up the rules on that again control_freak. Yes, casting an [Evil] spell is an evil act, but where are you getting the idea that a atonement is required? |
| control freak07-11-07, 12:45 PM | 2 evil acts= evil alignment shift = npc so yes i guess you could cast them but that would be bad for your PC :D |
| bitznarf07-11-07, 12:47 PM | 2 evil acts= evil alignment shift = npc Um... where are you getting this from? I don't recall *ever* seeing a rule like that. |
| control freak07-11-07, 12:53 PM | i coulda swore i saw a number in the evil acts paragraph but i could be wrong, and as for evil acts you cant simply cast tons of evil spells and exepect to get away with it sooner or later a DM will get tired of it and start noting evil acts and count them up (your right i just checked it would just be an alignment violation for certin clerics and paladins and other PCs) |
| bitznarf07-11-07, 01:16 PM | It has nothing to do with 'getting tired of it.' It has to do with the DM feeling that a PC's 'actions are significantly evil, either due to severity or quantity.' There is no other basis mentioned for reporting evil acts. |
| clannagh07-11-07, 09:41 PM | i coulda swore i saw a number in the evil acts paragraph but i could be wrong, and as for evil acts you cant simply cast tons of evil spells and exepect to get away with it sooner or later a DM will get tired of it and start noting evil acts and count them up (your right i just checked it would just be an alignment violation for certin clerics and paladins and other PCs) The GM can count as much as he likes but he has no power other than reporting to triad. Certian things will get a PC removed from the mod immediately pending investigation (killing another PC for example) but I am not aware of any mechanism where accumulating sporadic, low level, technically "evil" by RAW but morally good, acts such as rebuking undead or inflicitng wounds on an evil bad guy can result in anything more than a triad report that, as often as not, will get ignored as too trivial. |
| _metz_07-12-07, 08:01 AM | Check this out control_freak. (odd name to respond to really lol, makes it hard to not sound accusatory) http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/hq/penaltyguides Anything not so listed should be submitted to Triad. |
