What region is most likely to kill you? What region is the most likely to kill you and you NOT come back from it?

Which region has the mods most likely to possess a TPK?

Ok, sympathy post for you! ;)

I've found that Perrenland and Ratik regionals are generally not as lethal as many metaregionals and cores (certainly not Iuz metaregionals). There are one or two glaring exception like the Assassin Vine as discussed in another thread but as a rule I've found regionals on the softer end of the scale with regard to combat difficulty.

hehe

IUZ .. the place you are most likely to get both a free raise dead and the opportunity to use it in the same mod

I play in 4 regions: Ket, Keoland, Bissel, and Tusmit. I have these ranked in order of the hardest to easiest in my opinion.

I recently played a VTF meta-regional set in Ket. Man those laws suck. At least I was playing a rouge who could sap people for full damage, rather then, say, a cavalry charger who charges for subdual damage.
 3d8+lots, but you'll feel better tomorrow

You are going to see variation over the life of the campaign, as Triad members come and go.
For example, here in Ket, we used to be able to point at the uber-deadly VTF modules, and explain that many were written by our regional authors.
More recently, we've had a couple turnovers in the Triad member responsible for modules, so you'll likely see a difference in how those modules play (I'm not commenting whether easier or harder). I expect most regions are similar.

Just as a comment, I've played one Perrenland module, and none of us felt threatened at all. I expect that that's not standard, if others find the region really harsh.

In my opinion, the deadlist metaregion is IUZ, and the deadlist region is the BK. I think that this is the case not just because the encounters are more difficult, but because the characters are on average less powerful. It seems our triad has been very adamant about not turning the BK into old Living City by keeping it to the LG dogma of being a low-magic low-power world, which I heartily appreciate. I'm not saying that other regions are wrong in the way they run themselves, they're just different.

It's hard to put the genie back in the bottle once a region goes high magic.

What region is most likely to kill you?I wrote a Year 5 Shield Lands adventure that resulted in a guaranteed TPK at the end. Everyone who ever played it through "died". The adventure was in fact called "Better Off Dead". PCs were told by a major NPC that it was in fact a suicide mission and would likely die. They all did.

Is it particularly good that your metaregionals are uber-deadly, Penn? The last VTF metaregional that I played wasn't challenging in a fun way. It had a couple of encounters that were clearly under-CR'd, and a very stupid 'oh, you can use some of your influences on this guy' moment. There's a difference between interesting, difficult challenges, and events which are written to put the players at an unfair advantage.

But on the plus side it was funny laughing at the guy trying to get away. Up the stairs, grapple, whomph fall on the stairs, escape, grapple, stun, escape, grapple, beat with saps. Plus when else can you brain (with a sap of course, this is Ket) a defenseless non combatant and have it be both totally in character, legal, and a good tactical move?

most people do not have a problem with perrenland regionals

its the IUZ metaregionals that have the reputation of being hardcore

Some other regions are similar. Certrainly Onnwal is run like that. Of course, regions change oiver time, and Onnwal is less harsh than it was (for the better I believe).

I've played a few Iuz modules and virtually all of the released VTF modules.

IMO, there is no comparison, the VTF modules are much tougher, even if you play down.

VTF not because you will die but because warmages have a hell of a time with non leathal

I didn't find BK any more difficult than Ket or Pale - just different. All in good ways. I actually enjoy arbitrary regional restrictions on normal ways of doing stuff because of culture.

I've had lethal encounters in all regions I've visited, but they mostly stick out because you remember them. The ratio isnt' that different. Sometimes when visiting a "normal" region like Nyrond or Duchy of Urnst, I let my guard down and something that should be easy isn't. I tend to be more alert in the BK or when running an elf in Ket.

Speak for yourself. My warmage will have nonlethal subsitution by level 3. Of course he can only use it on Acid Splash but ....options are good and he's actually a very nice guy for a warmage...
