| Howie2301-29-07, 08:20 PM | Just out of curiousity, how do our Triad leaders come to take that position. Are they RPGA appointed positions, locally voted in, or what? Don't know about elsewhere. Here (Nyrond), there is generally a call for applications, with the new member chosen by the old Triad (and probably NMR Circle as well). David |
| Golorious01-29-07, 09:11 PM | When one of triad steps down they usually ask for applications, do some interviews with hopefulls and then current triad make a decision. Then finnally players begin hazing the new Triad and asking her/him all of the questions they asked the other triad hoping that they will get a different answer. Becomming a triad is a lot like getting a job without benefits or pay but the work is more fun (hopefully). So don't quit your day job :) Though if your job quits you, your region will be happy with the amount of stuff you can accomplish with all that free time :) This proccess is likely to vary from region to region but it is what I have witnessed in 3 different regions so far. |

I really was just curious as to how they got the position. |
| Britt01-29-07, 09:52 PM | Well, if you sacrifice enough kittens and puppies to the dark powers, the supreme overlord, EGG, grants you Triadical powers. It's a prestige class in BoVD2. |

I've been told to plead "temporary insanity" if it comes up in court... |

I'm assuming that once you get to be a Triad, you move up to small children in hopes of becoming a circle member? |

| LGMoses01-30-07, 08:55 AM | Everyone knows you have to schmooze ur way under the current triads wing and then make sure one of them has an unfortunate "accident." :schemes: |
| Arvagor01-30-07, 08:45 PM | You are on the Veluna Triad now?Yes; you'll have to come over some time and play my one and only mod effort so far. I didn't have call to do any nice maps like I did for "Clipping Wings" ;) , but maybe I'll have some good dungeon crawls to work on soon :coolcthul |
| smerwin2901-30-07, 08:49 PM | That settles it. Now I have to make sure I get to a Veluna convention this year. Congrats! |

| The_Jester01-31-07, 11:02 AM | I'm more curious if they ever get a chance to play anymore. Regionals are likely out and they might have a limited choice of metaregionals. I'd hate to only play Core mods... |
| Simpi01-31-07, 11:13 AM | I'm more curious if they ever get a chance to play anymore. Regionals are likely out and they might have a limited choice of metaregionals. I'd hate to only play Core mods... That's a choice we have to make. On the other hand we get to decide regions plot and can even impact meta-regional storylines. I don't mind not playing regionals. Heck, without being in Triad I still would be unable to play 50% of Naerie regionals as I have written so many of them. In metaregionals it hurts not be able to play excellent modules by Pieter Sleipjen (Madfox on these boards) but that is something I just have to endure :D Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |
| kenobi6501-31-07, 11:15 AM | I'm more curious if they ever get a chance to play anymore. Regionals are likely out and they might have a limited choice of metaregionals. I'd hate to only play Core mods... They can't play their own Regionals, I know that. I think that their PCs can't be residents of their regions, either -- here in Verbobonc, we have several new "residents", as a result of players from nearby regions becoming Triad members in their region, and moving their PCs to Verbobonc. I know that they can play Cores, because I've played Cores with two of my three Triad members. I imagine that they could play Regionals from other regions, or Metaregionals that they weren't involved in developing. |
| gomeztoo01-31-07, 11:52 AM | Triads can't play regionals in their region nor any metaregionals within their metaregion. Metaregional coordinators can't play metaregionals nor any scenario in a region within their metaregion. You can make/have PCs in your region, but there isn't much point. You would probably be best not to do this, as you could join MOs you developed and such, which shouldn't matter but could potentially get you odd looks. I have one TSS (Sunndi) PC. The rest of my PCs are from another metaregion (VTF). |
| Arvagor01-31-07, 10:45 PM | [...] here in Verbobonc, we have several new "residents", as a result of players from nearby regions becoming Triad members in their region, and moving their PCs to Verbobonc. Hey! That's me! :D And I already p***** off some Gnarley elves in my first adventure! :elf: |
| kenobi6502-01-07, 12:29 AM | And I already p***** off some Gnarley elves in my first adventure! :elf: Good job! I did that too, recently. Doesn't help that the PC with which I did that *is* a Gnarley elf. :P |
| gomeztoo02-01-07, 04:01 AM | Doesn't help that the PC with which I did that *is* a Gnarley elf. :P My Gnarley elf tries to be friends with everyone but is fai;ling fast. She manages to be the only PC to get kicked out of her town *because* she was an elf (MO rules). The whole Gnarley threat goes past her though. I haven't played any regionals, and I played only a few metaregionals, only one dealing with the threat. IC, I rationalize it that the clan has forbidden her to get involved (which would make sense as she seems part of the problem in the strife between Viscounty and the clans). I'd love to get involved more, but Illinois is too far to travel. I could try France this year again, perhaps play a few metaregionals... but some of the regionals really would fit my elf (and some, I expect, might have suprising results). |
| JohnduBois02-01-07, 07:18 AM | Hey! That's me! :D Hmm... story sounds familiar... Actually, not being able to play in-region doesn't hurt me as much as I thought it would - I'd have to drive about eight hours to get to another region in Iuz's Border States. So, I still get to play Veluna, Verby, VTF (and now Ket), and get to guide the direction of Furyondy (although soon, most of the important choices will be up to the players). It's a fun gig, if you've got good authors. |

I've often wondered if, when the campaign was initially setup, whether most of the volunteers were living in Ohio, as it's the only state that has an entire region to itself. So we get: - Furyondy to the north (Michigan) - Verbobonc to the west (Indiana) - Yeomanry to the south (Kentucky) - Geoff (West Virginia) and Keoland (Pennsylvania, New York) to the east |

I've often wondered if, when the campaign was initially setup, whether most of the volunteers were living in Ohio, as it's the only state that has an entire region to itself. Not necessarily. Wisconsin has Highfolk all to itself, as well. I think the regions were apportioned based, at least in part, on the size of the RPGA member base in each area. My suspicion is that Wisconsin has / had a relatively large number of RPGA members due, in part, to the heritage of TSR and GenCon being located there, but I could be wrong. |

Lots of Unholy Keen Scythe crits and <reach spell> fell harms are also votes in your favor. If you also can get a PC to voluntarily give over his soul to a leveled pit fiend.."Join the Dark Side; we have cookies" Using other PCs as weapons (and remembering to take the -4 for improvised weapons) and hitting the PC that had cast Shield Other on the "club" when the Shield Other caster was wearing spiked armor also helps.:evillaugh Making sure an entire region has fun playing the modules...and occasionally needs to change their underwear from module play....:D Actually in most cases the old triad members vote on the new applicants after seeing a gaming (and possibly) a professional resume'. Then we just play it by ear....:twitch: Lynn Register Veluna Triad |

I've often wondered if, when the campaign was initially setup, whether most of the volunteers were living in Ohio, as it's the only state that has an entire region to itself. Hey, don't forget about Furyondy. As much as the UP might WANT to be a different state (or part of Highfolk, with all the trees), they're still stuck in good old Michigan. |
| smerwin2902-01-07, 03:41 PM | Great googly moogly! Brian and Lynn are BOTH on the Veluna Triad now. I blink for a moment (and take over a different campaign), and the place goes to heck! :-D I'll have to dust off Lord Kilcade "Pidge" Secunforth of Valkurl. He's been holed up in his manor's basement a little too long, it seems. |

The regions were originally apportioned based on the popularity of the living city campaign at the time. (That would have been close to the distribution of the RPGA members at the time, but helps explain why Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio received their own regions). Ed |

And I only have Lynn and Dave to shape me -- Gozrag and 'Killer Kerscher' -- so what direction will Veluna be headed now? :angelhide |
| nony2klerch02-02-07, 01:59 PM | The place is safe until the end of the year...I'm not scheduled to write any Veluna stuff until WiV....should be fun!:D |
| wagnert02-02-07, 03:50 PM | I play actively in 3 regions, Yeomanry, Gran March, and Principality of Ulek and know most of the current and previous Triads in each. One of the Yeomanry Triad was in my local gaming group before he became a Triad. He can no longer play regional and metaregion adventures with us, so he usually runs them for us. He does play core and core special adventures with us. I've also played with him in Gran March and Principality of Ulek adventures. All three regions have requested a professional and a gaming resume from all the applicants with the remaining Triad choosing someone from that group. The key factors seem to be how active you are, especially if you judge frequently and any metaorganization leadership. |
| LGMoses02-03-07, 01:54 PM | Yeomanry! Yeomanry! Woooo Raise the Spear!:ayyyy!: I'm smack dab in the middle of the Yeomanry and this is my first year running Dnd. I'll see any of you going to Weekend in the Yeomanry this year! Raise the Spear! |
| TimRat02-05-07, 08:36 PM | ya pretty much the call goes out for another triad member who submits a resume and so forth. they can't play in any of their regionals or the meta-regionals for the region. they are allowed to play other regionals however (say you are triad in veluna you can play in verbobonc regionals but not the metas) you do have to sacrifice chickens and stuff to get on it and so forth like britt said. thats a pre-req. |
