| Platinum07-12-04, 10:19 PM | If you have gaunlets of orge power and get an AR with a +4 belt of giant strength, can you upgrade by merely paying the difference?    |
| Platinum07-12-04, 10:38 PM | The answer is on p. 52: No. |
| Furluge07-13-04, 02:25 AM | Well I'd like to ask something else regarding upgrades in this thread, especially since you've already figured out the answer to your question. I'm just starting out the campaign and I'm saving up for a new suit of armor and I'm wondering if I should buy a regular or masterwork version of the armor with the idea of upgrading the masterwork armor to +1 eventually instead of having to sell off a regular version of the armor and then having to replace it with a brand new +1 suit. Is there any way one can pay to have it upgraded say by an NPC or must I just buy a completely new suit? |
| Platinum07-13-04, 11:22 AM | Money is tight in LG. If you EVER plan to upgrade to magic, save for masterwork! (or else you'll be selling normal armor back for half gold.) I'm not buying the orge power gauntlets and will merely save for the belt for the same reason. | oroborous07-14-04, 02:30 AM | I've saved several thousand GP by upgrading weapons and armor, and I would recommend always buying MW when possible. I was able to get certed MW in 591 and I've been upgrading it ever since. I am very greatful that the Co6 decided +2 stat boost items were legal, because it helps me out very much. |
| Furluge07-19-04, 11:09 PM | Ok, that's great, but what I want to know is how do I go about upgrading. If I can purchase it can I just have an NPC upgrade it at a difference between the market price of my MW armor and the market price of the upgraded armor, or must I myself get craft magic weapons and armor and upgrade it myself, that's what I want to know. |
| StevieS07-20-04, 05:30 AM | Hi You can upgrade from MW to +1 at any time by paying the differance in GPs in the items bought section of your AR then altering your MIL to suit. This costs no TUs. You may also upgrade it yourself using the MIC system where you pay half the GPs but it costs you some XP and a TU if you have the craft arms & armour feat. So you can do it either way. Cheers Stevie |
| Furluge07-20-04, 02:26 PM | Thank you. I assume that applies for anything else upgradeable that I have the ability to purchase, like if I got it from a metaorg benefit or AR? |
| Timlagor07-20-04, 03:39 PM | I think you need specificly 'upgrade access' as opposed to ordinary 'purchase access'. The LGCS gives some low-end unpgrade and purchase access. |
| StevieS07-20-04, 04:14 PM | Hi The upgrade is specific for MW arms and armour upgrading to +1 enchantment. It is in the LGCS. Other access you get, eg +2 weapons, are purchase access only so you buy a new better one for full price and sell your old one for half value. This is the normal access you will see. There are specific upgrade favours out there where someone will make your item more powerful for the GP differance only, in payment for some good deed. These are much more rare. If you have the craft feats you can upgrade your items yourself provided you have access to purchase the new item, you pay half the differance, some XP and TUs as per the MIC rules. Hope that makes sense. Stevie |
| Furluge07-21-04, 02:33 PM | Ahh, ok, thank you very much. If you would, could you perhaps point me to where this is in the LGCS? I looked over that document back and forth but I couldn't find any mention of the upgrade access every time I went though it. Unfortunately sometimes getting a quick answer from the LGCS can be hard, |
| StevieS07-21-04, 02:40 PM | Sure LGCS p14, RH column about a third down. It starts 'You may upgrade ... etc etc' |
| Furluge07-23-04, 11:57 PM | Thank you very much. I appreciate your assistance. |

This is the normal access you will see. I read through the LGCS and I did not see it written anywhere that +2 weapons are purchase access only. It states that you may upgrade any standard item so long as you have access to purchase that item. A +1 longsword is still considered a standard item by the rules laid out in chapter 7. Based on what is stated on pg. 52 table 8-2, "You may add an additional +1 bonus or special ability from table 7-14 or 7-15 in the DMG to an existing weapon." You CAN take a +1 longsword and upgrade it to a +2 longsword. You do not have to sell the +1 and buy a +2 outright. |

If you don't (you can buy a +2 longsword, for instance), you can buy that sword, not upgrade your existing sword to +2. You need seperate access for that (like granted by several favours I have). You can NOT take a longsword +1 and upgrade it to a longsword +2 without having access to an (explicit) upgrade to allow that. Table 8-2 tells you what items you can upgrade, provided you have access to an upgrade. It's meant to show that you cannot upgrade a Nine-Lives-Stealer for instance, as that's not a standard weapon for upgrading. Bas Vermeulen |
| sheibeck08-13-04, 09:37 AM | Well, I'm sure you are right, since you have favours that grant the ability to upgrade, however, if you could point me to something in the LGCS that actually shows that you need "access" to standard items that are greater than +2 I'd appreciate it. I guess I just don't see it as according to the defenitions a +2 weapon is still considered standard. I've read this dang thing from cover to cover like 10 times now and I just don't see it. Is there an official statement somewhere, or a FAQ where someone asks this question? Thanks in advance. |
| sheibeck08-13-04, 09:40 AM | Never mind my previous post. I answered my own question. Ha! My own post above specifically says "If you have access to purchase that item." I see the light! |
