| Lightblade06-30-06, 01:31 PM | My main character, a Druid 6 / Bard 2, has access to a wand of Cure Moderate Wounds. I was wondering if it would be worth getting. I know CLW is a better spell to use out of combat, but i was wondering if I'd get any use of it in combat in the APL 8-10 range. I really do dislike incorporeal undead, and have thought about using it against them. However, i'm not sure the increased damage is worth the big jump in price. Also a question for those in the know. Do you think I could use a "cure" touch attack combined with the Razing Strike feat from Complete Adventurer? It said melee attack, from which i would imagine a touch attack is a subset thereof. |

With my next level of Rogue, of course. This character is going Fochyucan Lyracist. Still, I wouldn't pick up Razing Strike until 12th level or so; 9th level is reserved for Practiced Spellcaster(Druid). |
| solbergb06-30-06, 03:56 PM | I've had access to that wand a few times on various characters and it never seems worth it by the time I get the cash. On the other hand, I remember a story my sister told about a weak party playing up to level 6 which was a near TPK except for the one archer-bard in the party shooting and a combination of mirror images, cmw wand hits and inspirational boost bardsongs from my sister's bard killing the monsters one by one, while the rest of the party was poisoned into paralysis. A CMW wand will heal about twice what a CLW wand will do per charge, and costs 6x as much. Unfortunately by the time you can afford the premium healing 12 points of damage per hit instead of 5.5 is still not enough to make a difference and thus be worth an action. Better to invest in a scroll of cure critical wounds - at 700gp you'll not be tempted to use it except when it is needed, but when it IS needed, it might heal enough to matter. |

Something to consider is just how good a CMW wand is - the big problem is that it loses the benefits of your caster level. 2d8+3 isn't that much better than 1d8+5 on average. If you had say 4 Pearls of Power instead, you could simply cast CLW a few extra times a day as needed. And you could always use the Pearls of Power for other things, such as Lesser Vigor for out of combat... |
| Paul H07-02-06, 08:49 PM | Hi My main (Clr 3/Warmage 4) has also got access to Wand CMW. For the cost I'd rather wait for something better. (Specifically I'm going for Tan Bag of Tricks - those large creatures really useful for interference/damage limitation)! Suggest you keep the money for something more useful. (Wand CLW is another matter.......). As for disposing of incorporeals, leave that to the clerics, though Call Lightning is quite useful. The Unicorn (Summon Nature's Ally IV), it's Circle of Protection would be useful during combat, its healing powers after. Cheers Paul H |
